NASCAR Throttles Back Toyota Tundras
09-03-2008 | Tom Jensen, TruckSeries.com
In a technical bulletin virtually identical to one issued in the Nationwide Series in July, NASCAR has ordered Toyota Tundras in the Craftsman Truck Series to use smaller tapered spacers to reduce horsepower by about 15 to 20. And once again, the bulletin did not identify Toyota by name but only affects Toyota competitors. The technical bulletin issued by NASCAR to amend Section 20B - 5.10.4 of the NCTS rule book read as follows: "At all Events, unless otherwise specified, all engines with a cylinder bore spacing less than 4.470 inches must compete using a tapered spacer with four (4) 1.125-inch diameter holes. At all Events, unless otherwise specified, all engines with a cylinder bore spacing of 4.470 inches or more must compete using a tapered spacer with four (4) 1.100-inch diameter holes. Unless otherwise authorized, the carburetor restrictor will be issued by NASCAR." The only NCTS manufacturer that uses engines with a cylinder bore spacing of 4.470 inches or more is Toyota.
Brian Scott Joins BDR Toyota Team
09-03-2008 | TruckSeries.com Report
Bill Davis Racing announced that rookie Brian Scott has signed on to drive a Bill Davis Racing NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Toyota Tundra for the entire 2009 season. The 20-year-old Boise, Idaho native has competed in 23 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races in the last two seasons. "We are excited about the addition of Brian Scott to our program," commented team owner Bill Davis. "Brian has done a great job this season learning what it takes to win in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and we are looking forward to having him in one of our Toyota Tundra entries in 2009. Our two veteran drivers, Mike Skinner and Johnny Benson, have done a great job mentoring both Scott Speed and Michael Annett, and I think they will both take Brian under their wing." ASE Will Not Return as Primary Sponsor

The Longest Running Primary Team Sponsor In NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series History, Team ASE, Will Not Return For 2009 Season
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) will not return as a primary team sponsor in the 2009 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, nor will it return as title sponsor of TruckSeries.com Presented by Team ASE, the nation's leading NCTS news and information site. "As one of the original NCTS sponsors, our Team ASE racing program has served the organization well since 1994, but our board has decided that it's time to redirect those resources," said Tim Zilke, ASE President. ASE is the primary sponsor of the No. 59 Harris Trucking/Team ASE Toyota Tundra driven by 2005 NCTS Champion Ted Musgrave. With 16 of 25 races on the 2008 schedule completed, Musgrave currently sits 14th in points, with five top-10 finishes. (Robert Laberge/Getty Images/NASCAR Photo)
Busch, Benson Benefit At Bristol
08-21-2008 | Tom Jensen, TruckSeries.com
Kyle Busch won the battle of Bristol on Wednesday night, but Johnny Benson took one more step towards winning the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series war for 2008. The 23-year-old Busch dominated the proceedings in the O'Reilly 200 Presented by Camping World RV Sales, leading 145 of 203 laps, as he put Billy Ballew's Miccosukee Resorts Toyota Tundra into victory lane for the third time this season. And while Benson failed in his quest to become the first driver to win four consecutive NCTS races, his fourth-place finish allowed him to open a little breathing room over Ron Hornaday Jr. and the rest of the field chasing the 2008 series championship. There's not much new that can be said about Busch, who now has 17 victories in NASCAR's top three divisions, a surreal performance people will be talking about decades from now. On Wednesday night at the 0.533-mile high-banked Bristol track, he took the lead on Lap 71 and never again trailed. "This is definitely a great race team," said Busch. "It's a lot of fun with Billy Ballew (owner), Richie (Wauters, crew chief) and all these guys. We just had a great race tonight. This thing was pretty good when we unloaded it. Same stuff as last year. We just kind of fine-tuned on it a little bit." (SPEEDtv.com Photo)
Rowdy Night in Bristol

Kyle Busch dominated the O'Reilly 200 presented by Camping World RV Sales at Bristol Motor Speedway Wednesday night, winning his third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race of the year in his Miccosukee Resorts Toyota Tundra. In the process, Busch survived a green-white-checkered finish to reset his own record for most single-season victories in NASCAR's top three divisions with 17. Points leader Johnny Benson made a valiant charge in his attempt to win his fourth consecutive NCTS race, something that has never been done before. But Benson had to settle for fourth place, behind Busch, Todd Bodine and Scott Speed. Rick Crawford completed the top five.

Speed's best previous start in eight truck races was fourth at Dover earlier this year in a race he won. Speed's lap of 123.865 mph in Bill Davis Racing's No. 22 Toyota was 0.016 seconds faster than teammate Johnny Benson. Going for his fourth consecutive truck series victory, Benson's lap was 123.738 mph. (Ronda Greer/NASCAR Photo)

Johnny Benson trying to make NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history doing something that Greg Biffle, Todd Bodine, Ron Hornaday Jr. and Mike Skinner all tried but couldn't do themselves. Jimmie Johnson trying to make his first NCTS start. Canadian Patrick Carpentier, too. Hornaday trying to retaking the NCTS points lead. Rowdy back behind the wheel. And 36 ornery trucks and even ornerier drivers, all with their respective feet to the floor for 200 high-banked and hell-raising laps. Welcome to Bristol Motor Speedway, site of Wednesday night's O'Reilly 200, race No. 16 of 25 on the 2008 NCTS schedule. And what a race it should be around the fiendishly fast 0.533-mile oval.
