Kyle Busch captured the pole for tonight's O'Reilly 200 NASCAR Camping World
Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Busch's engine, however, had a problem with a valve cover, which will force him
to start the race at the rear because this is an impound race and his crew had
to repair his engine before the race.
SPEED's live coverage of tonight's race begins at 7:30 P.M. ET with the "NASCAR
Camping World Truck Series Set-Up," hosted by Krista Voda.
Busch, the two-time defending Truck Series race winner at Bristol, lapped the
high-banked, 0.533-mile oval at 122.968 miles per hour in his No. 18 Kyle Busch
Motorsports Toyota Tundra.
That was good enough to give Busch his first pole in six career Truck Series
starts at Bristol, one of his favorite tracks, especially since it was repaved a
couple of seasons back.
"Bristol used to be a track where you could charge the corners a little bit and
get it right in and down to the bottom of the track," said Busch. "You kind of
would go through the middle of the corner and then slingshot out on the exits.
And now it's just so smooth that you're easy in, you're kind of easy through the
center, and easy off. The track is a little slower than I think it was because
they reduced some banking in order to put sort of the progressive banking into
it to make the outside groove better for the fans."
Qualifying behind Busch was James Buescher in the Wolf Pack Rentals Chevrolet
Silverado, which had a lap of 122.733 mph.
Third fast was the No. 2 GT Vodka-sponsored Kevin Harvick Inc. driven by Elliott
Sadler, who ran 122.591 mph. Then it was Johnny Sauter in the No. 13 IN Country
Television Chevrolet from ThorSport Racing and four-time NCWTS Champ Ron
Hornaday Jr. in his No. 33 Tide-sponsored KHI Chevy.
The second five was Brad Keselowski, Timothy Peters, Mike Skinner, Stacy Compton
and Donny Lia.
