Chris Fontaine had his NCWTS career best qualifying run on Saturday, March 6, when he qualified the Glenden Enterprises #84 Chevrolet at 175.338 mph, 31.619 seconds, on the 1.54 mile Atlanta Motor Speedway for a 13th place start to the EZ-GO 200. He went on to finish the race in 17th place.
"The track is really,really fast. It was exciting to be there, and it took a while in practice for me to figure it out, but I finally got it where I could hold it all the way down and flat-foot it for qualifying. We ran a pretty good lap and got our best ever start with 13th," Fontaine said.
"We fell back a little bit in the race, but it just took me a little while to learn the track in traffic. We had a pretty good run going in the middle of the race. We got a lap down at the end of the race and it hurt us, but overall we learned a lot about momentum racing there. I look forward to the next time we go to Atlanta," he said.
The next race on the NCWTS schedule for the CFI team will be at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday, April 2. The race will be broadcast live on the SPEED channel at 7:30 PM.
"Now we are going to Nashville and see if we can improve our qualifying position and get a top ten," Fontaine said, continuing, "Atlanta is one of, if not the fastest track on the NASCAR circuit, so having competed there, everything else is going to be a little bit slower. Going into it mentally, I know I have been as fast as I have to go, and everything else will seem a little bit easier."
Glenden Enterprises is the supporter of the #84 at this time, and the team is seeking more sponsorship so they can run more races.
In addition to Atlanta, the team currently plans to race at Nashville, Dover, Michigan, Kentucky and Homestead. The team plans to add ORP, the fall Nashville race, Darlington, Chicagoland, Martinsville and Talladega as funds become available.
"The lack of sponsorship is holding us back from running more races than we are," Fontaine said.
