Carl Edwards Makes it Two in a Row at Nashville

Carl Edwards closed to within one victory of Kurt Busch's Raybestos Rookie record as he won Friday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Federated Auto Parts 200 at Nashville Superspeedway. The victory, by 1.209 seconds over Ted Musgrave, was the second in a row by the Roush Racing driver and third of the 2003 season. Edwards' Ford averaged 129.557 mph for the 150-lap, 200-mile distance on the 1.333-mile banked concrete oval. Edwards, who qualified sixth, fell to the rear of the field at the start due to an engine change. He wasted no time coming to the front, taking 10th place on lap 17 and the lead at lap 60. He passed Musgrave's Mopar Performance Dodge for the final time on lap 103 and built leads of as much as 2.2 seconds. Rick Crawford overcame a 15-second pit road penalty to finish third in his Town & Country/Circle Bar Ford. David Starr was fourth with Brendan Gaughan fifth. Gaughan, who trailed Travis Kvapil by 10 points entering the season's 15th race, takes over the series championship lead by seven over Kvapil and 21 over Musgrave. Kvapil finished ninth. There were nine lead changes among seven drivers. Three caution periods consumed 16 laps.
