Make It Win Number One for Leffler

Jason Leffler, who'd finished second six times in 2002, captured his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory in Friday's MBNA Armed Forces Family 200 at Dover International Speedway. Leffler took the lead on the 144th lap - when Ultra Motorsports partner Ted Musgrave suffered engine failure - and sped to a three-second victory over series points leader Bobby Hamilton. Leffler, driving the No. 2 Team ASE Racing/Carquest Dodge, won in his 29th series start at an average speed of 97.232 mph. He won $52,485. The victory marked the third in consecutive years by Jim and Marlene Smith's Ultra team - Musgrave in 2002 and Scott Riggs in 2001, the latter aboard the same No. 2 Dodge Ram. The win was the 24th in series competition for crew chief Dennis Connor, who joined the team earlier in the week. Hamilton went from fourth to second in the final three laps, passing David Starr and Jon Wood, who finished third and fourth. Travis Kvapil was fifth. Only 16 drivers from a field of 33 finished the 200-lap/200-mile race that was interrupted by caution eight times for a total of 42 laps. Ten drivers finished on the lead lap as five drivers swapped the lead four times. Hamilton holds a 43-point championship lead over Rick Crawford, the eighth-place finisher who led a race-high 70 laps.
