Musgrave Wins Hardee's 200
Ted Musgrave withstood a furious, side-by-side battle with Brendan Gaughan to capture Friday's night's inaugural NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Hardee's 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Musgrave, driving the No. 1 Mopar Performance Dodge, spun his rear tires on a lap 135 restart, allowing Gaughan to drive the nose of his No. 62 American Racing Wheels Dodge past Musgrave as the pair entered the first turn of the 1.5-mile speedway. Musgrave, however, recovered to regain the advantage in Turn 2 and held off Gaughan to score his 11th career victory by a margin of .233 seconds. The late caution, for a spin in Turn 4 by L.W. Miller, extended the race two laps past its scheduled 134-lap distance - marking the third time in five 2003 that series races have gone into overtime. Rick Crawford finished third in the Circle Bar Motel & RV Park Ford, his best finish since winning the Daytona opener. Travis Kvapil was fourth in the No. 16 IWX Motor Freight Chevrolet. Kevin Harvick finished fifth in his Sonic America's Drive-In Chevrolet, coming from 14th in the waning laps after recovering a lap lost when caution followed his green flag pit stop. Bobby Hamilton finished seventh to hold a 20-point championship lead over Crawford with Musgrave third.
