Cook Blisters Indy With Fourth Win In 2002

Terry Cook, leading by as much as seven seconds, led 178 of 200 laps en route to victory Friday night in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Cook, who qualified his Power Stroke Diesel Ford on the Bud Pole, won for the fourth time this season to close to within five points of the points lead with eight races remaining on the 2002 schedule. Cook, winning $48,260 plus a $10,000 pole/winner bonus from Craftsman, averaged 74.018 mph - the slowest series race at IRP - in beating Jason Leffler's Team ASE Racing/CARQUEST Dodge by 1.467 seconds. Leffler finished second for the fifth time without a victory to set a series record. Travis Kvapil was third in the CAT Rental Stores Chevrolet, trailed by Mike Wallace and Robert Pressley. Fifty-two of 200 laps were consumed by caution with a checkered/yellow waving over Cook when Ted Musgrave, Dennis Setzer, Mike Bliss and Rick Crawford slammed together between turns 1 and 2 of the final lap. Bliss, who finished 15th, retained a 2,079 to 2,074 points championship lead over Cook. Leffler moved up to third at 1,050 as just 108 spans first through eighth in the standings.
