Pressley Roars To Victory In Michigan

Robert Pressley learned a thing or two in his six years as a Winston Cup driver and he had to call upon that experience Saturday to preserve his second win of the year in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.  Pressley, without a Nextel Cup ride this season, held off a determined rush by Jason Leffler to win the Michigan 200 by 0.102 seconds. Pressley averaged 142.208 mph in his Square D Dodge owned by Bobby Hamilton. It was the third-fastest race in Truck Series history and the finish was the eighth closest.  In order to win, Pressley had to block Leffler for the final mile after Leffler, in his Carquest Racing Dodge, had sliced a 1.5 second deficit to one car length with a lap left. Pressley practically wove his way from turn four to the finish line.  Travis Kvapil finished third, Mike Bliss fourth and David Starr fifth. The result vaulted Bliss into the Series points lead after former leader Ted Musgrave blew an engine and fell out on the 40th lap. Bliss moved to the top with Starr second and Musgrave third.  Terry Cook, Coy Gibbs, rookie Lance Norick, Rick Crawford and Jon Wood rounded out the top ten.  Leffler, sixth in the standings and still looking for his first win, had no quarrel with the way things turned out.  “The 18 truck (Pressley) was dominant all day,” Leffler said. Pressley led twice, the second time taking over on lap 70 and holding it the rest of the way.  “The truck was good from the start (of the weekend),” Pressley said. “Our pit stops were great and the car ran flawless over the last few laps."   Kvapil started in ninth and struggled through most of the race. He came alive in the late going, making it to third place by lap 80.  “We made a lot of adjustments,” Kvapil said. “I t got a little bit too tight for me. We were held up in the pits. We struggled all weekend, so to finish third was great for us.”
