Following a fantastic week of qualifying and practice Randy Briggs put the
#53 Canines Choice/ToolBoxGrill.com in the 17th starting position for the
Florida Dodge Dealers 250 on Friday at Daytona International Speedway.
As the Craftsman Truck series rolled off pit road for the first time this season
Randy had a little more than driving line and adjustments on his mind. On the
pace lap, Randy came on the radio with an important question for team manager
Mary Ward. While making pace laps at Daytona Randy came across the radio and
proposed marriage to Mary. Without hesitation, Mary said yes and then the race
was on.
As the trucks took the green flag Randy wound the #53 truck up to racing speed.
A caution on lap 3 slowed the field, Randy battling a slight overheating problem
settled back in 24 by lap 20. By the midpoint of the race, Randy made his move
towards the front. After making a round of adjustments, Randy had the truck in
11th position by Lap 71. A pit road speeding infraction required a stop and go
penalty which moved Randy back to 20th position, but the #53 truck wouldn’t be
denied and started to move forward again. On lap 94, Randy was three wide, got
loose, and was able to save the truck, but contact with the #86 truck brought
the fourth caution of the day. Randy was caught up in a last official lap crash,
being hit on the right side spinning into the infield grass but was able to
recover to finish 14th in the Florida Dodge Dealers 250.
“We had a truck capable of finishing in the top ten, rookie mistakes put us in
14th “ Briggs said.
Randy, as the highest finishing rookie, wins the Raybestos Rookie of the race
award and is in 14th place in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standing
and leading all rookies for the Raybestos Rookie of the year award.
“This isn’t really about finishing 14th, which is great. This is about all the
people who told us to never give up on our dream.” Briggs said after the race.”
Randy and Pro Motion take the momentum from Daytona and move onto Darlington
where Randy will continue his assault on the Raybestos Rookie of the year award.
As always, Randy and the Pro Motion team would like to thank all of their fans
and sponsors for all of their support.
The dream continues…
