MCCUMBEE: Focused On Safety On High Banks
TruckSeries.com Report

As those familiar with the high-speed, close-quarters racing of Talladega Superspeedway know, focus and concentration are key ingredients in a successful race at the 2.66-mile track.

Chad McCumbee will enter the "Mountain Dew 250 fueled by Fred's" NCWTS race with full intentions of improving upon his career best 10th-place finish here but knows that one wrong move could end in disaster for the No. 07 tiwi Chevrolet.

Likewise, on our nation's highways and roads one wrong move or distraction can end in disaster, which is too often the case as more teens die from auto accidents than from any other cause. McCumbee's sponsor tiwi is the technology that serves as a sort of spotter to reduce such incidents.

tiwi is an in-vehicle monitoring device used to instantly alert and instruct new teenage drivers and promote safe driving. The tiwi logo will adorn the hood of the SS Green Light Racing truck for the sixth time this season and the hopes are that the safety benefits of its product translates into heightened awareness for McCumbee, who will be racing inches apart from the competition at speeds over 190 miles per hour and his spotter.

Just as tiwi mentors young, inexperienced drivers to aid in the development of critical driving habits, limiting distractions and preventing even just one wrong move that could result in an accident, McCumbee will have his own "mentor" high atop the Talladega Superspeedway grandstands. McCumbee's spotter, John Chisholm, will be keeping him abreast of the position of his truck and his competition, guiding him through the field and helping the tiwi Chevrolet avoid "the big one," which is so infamous at the largest track on the NASCAR circuit.

"Maintaining your composure and focus for 250 miles is probably one of the toughest parts about racing here at Talladega," said McCumbee. "But my spotter does a good job of keeping me aware of what's going on around me and directing me through traffic in the fastest -- and definitely safest -- way possible."

In three starts at the Alabama track McCumbee has shown improvement with each race, posting a top-10 finish in his most recent attempt in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race here last October. McCumbee already has posted one top-five and five top-ten's in 17 races this season.

"I know how much safer I feel with my spotter looking out for me when I'm on the track," McCumbee said. "I know parents must feel that same peace of mind when they know that the tiwi product is watching over their child out on the real road."

Thirty-eight drivers are on the preliminary entry list for the Mountain Dew 250 fueled by Fred's", which will be shown live on SPEED TV at 4:00 eastern on October 31st. It will also be broadcast live via radio worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and on SIRIUS Satellite Radio.
