Mother Nature wrecked havoc at Martinsville Speedway. Most of the first practice session was rained out so the #1 Red Horse Racing team had just one practice to make their Tundra the best. That evening Peters put his Strutmasters.com machine in the 11th starting spot for the Kroger 200.

The race was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon but rain showers in the area persisted all morning and delayed the start of the race. Peters didn't let the rain dampen his spirits; he was determined to race and be there fighting for a win at the end.

When the green flag finally waved, Peters wasn't sure what the future would hold. Reporting his Tundra was loose in turns one and two, he began to slip back in the field eventually finding himself in the 15th position. Crew chief Chad Kendrick reassured his driver that his truck would run better when some of the fuel had burned off.

The first caution of the race came out on lap 32 and Kendrick took the opportunity to call Peters to pit road. He took four fresh tires on lap 33 and returned on lap 34 for fuel, track bar and wedge adjustments to fix the loose center and off condition. Peters restarted 21st.

It didn't take long for Peters to start his march to the front. Just 10 laps later, he had already climbed his way to the 14th spot. Another caution came out on lap 52 but Kendrick told his driver to stay out. In fact, he was planning to stay out for the rest of the race and try to go the distance with the fuel they had. Many of the leaders hit pit road under that caution and Peters gained plenty of track position. He restarted from the sixth spot.

Peters passed for the fifth position the following lap but was hungry for the lead. He used patient persistence to work his way through the field. Kendrick told Peters he was rolling through the center of the corners better than anyone else and was running his fastest lap times of the race. Peters moved up to the second position before the next caution came out on lap 114. The leader hit pit road and Peters took over the lead.

The #1 Strutmasters.com Tundra led the field to the green flag on lap 119. A quick caution came out the following lap and then another just seven laps later. Peters was not fazed by the back to back restarts. He maintained composure and kept all the competitors in his rear view mirror.

Kendrick continued to coach his driver, telling him he was running faster and faster laps as the race wound down. With 50 laps to go, Peters was still leading. A caution came out on lap 167 and the field had to set up for another restart. Peters took off once again and no other trucks could reach rear bumper.

With 10 laps to go, Peters was more determined than ever. Kendrick radioed his driver and asked him to conserve fuel since he knew they would be very close to running out by lap 200. Peters took care of his equipment and conserved fuel as much as he could. On the final lap, Peters led the field by 1.815 seconds coming out of turn four and crossed the finish line in a very emotional first victory at his home track.
