Starting the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 from the 16th position, Buescher quickly made progress towards the front of the field, as the Texas native was running in the 11th-place by lap three when the first caution of the event slowed the field . When the race restarted, Buescher continued his assault and broke into the top-10 on lap seven. Just a handful of laps later, Buescher radioed to crew chief Jamie Jones that his Ford turned "way loose" and the Circle Bar Racing entry fell back to the 24th position. On lap 20, Buescher's right rear tire came apart, causing a caution to come out and putting the 19-year-old one lap down as he came into the pits for new tires. On lap 23, Buescher returned to pit road for fuel and a track bar adjustment to help with the handling of the Ford F-150. The No. 10 MaxxForce team restarted from the 28th position.

Six laps later another caution flew, making Buescher the recipient of the Lucky Dog Award, which put the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Candidate back on the lead lap. Jones brought Buescher back down pit road to top off with fuel and a track bar adjustment to help with the tight-handling condition. On lap 36, Buescher restarted in 24th-place. As the field spread out across the 1.5-mile track, a long green-flag run ensued, causing the leaders to come to pit road. As the field started to make pit stops on lap 72, Buescher was put a lap down the next lap by leader and eventual race winner Kyle Busch.

Staying out on the racetrack as long as possible, Buescher was running as high as the fifth position before Jones called him to pit road for four fresh tires and an air pressure adjustment on lap 90, followed by fuel and a track bar adjustment the next lap. As the field cycled through, Buescher was scored three laps down to the leaders, in the 22nd position. Unfortunately, Buescher was the only truck three laps down, forcing the rookie to ride around as he was unable to gain any positions. As late race cautions flew, Buescher gained two running positions and came home with a 20th-place finish.

"It was definitely a disappointing race," said Buescher. "I thought we were going to have a great race and in the beginning I was working my way towards the front, but then the right rear tire came apart forcing me to pit and put us a lap down. We worked our way into the Lucky Dog spot to get our lap back, but we just got spread out on that long green-flag and by the time we got finished with both of our pit stops, we were three laps down. It was definitely unfortunate, because we all wanted to put on a good run for everyone at International and to have this "Back the Bid" Olympic paint scheme up front. We will just have to put this one behind us and head onto Iowa next week."

Despite his 20th-place finish, Buescher remains in the 15th position in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship point standings. He is currently only 102 points behind 14th-place Johnny Sauter and 130 points behind 13th-place Tayler Malsam.
