Officials from Sheltra Motorsports announced today that former NASCAR Camping
World Truck Series (NCWTS) Champion Ted Musgrave will share the driving duties
with Patrick Sheltra in the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger Wednesday
at Chicagoland Speedway for the open ARCA RE/MAX Series test session in
preparation for next Friday's Ansell Cut Protection 150.
Musgrave, a native of Franklin, Wisconsin has been serving as the driver coach
for the 23-year old phenom since Berlin Raceway last month. Musgrave will assist
and assess the setup of the Buffalo Wings & Rings Racing entry with the
intentions of putting the veteran team back in victory lane for round number 15
next Friday afternoon.
"We've been planning this for a while but we're excited to finally make it a
reality," said Car Owner Grace Sheltra. "Ted has been instrumental in evaluating
our team. Now he can give us a clear assessment after being in the driver's seat
too."
From driver Patrick Sheltra's point of view he sees the opportunity of having
Musgrave climb behind the wheel as beneficial all the way around. "It's been
awesome to work with Ted," the Indiantown, Florida native said. "I want to do
everything I can to make our team better than what it is. Ted and I have talked
in great lengths about this approaching the test and I feel that not only can
the team learn something but I can learn as well. He's here to help make me
better and the team stronger. We're making good use of his expertise."
The 18-year NASCAR veteran is thriving on the success of Sheltra and feels that
participating in the test could be the glue that brings the team back to the
front.
"This is a good team with great people," said Musgrave. "We can learn a lot on
Wednesday from all different angles. The biggest benefit will be to evaluate
what Patrick is feeling behind the wheel and try and make our car a threat for
the race."
Sheltra will remain behind the wheel as the full-time driver of the No. 60
Buffalo Wings & Rings machine for the remainder of the 2009 season and beyond.
However, the team has not ruled out Musgrave returning to the cockpit at future
private and open testing sessions.
Sheltra has 59 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory
at Salem Speedway (April 2009). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated
nine top-fives and posted 19 top-10 finishes. A third place qualifying effort at
Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra's best time trials efforts to date.
He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 109 laps.
