Brian Scott took full advantage of a super strong No. 16 Albertsons Toyota Tundra and a gutsy pit call by crew chief Jeff Hensley to post an impressive second place finish in Saturday night's Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway. Scott's desperate late race attempt to pass leader Ron Hornaday Jr. fell short due to a cut tire and Hornaday Jr. captured his record setting fifth consecutive NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. Hornaday Jr.'s efforts denied Scott the coveted Gibson guitar trophy that accompanies a win at Nashville.

"Man I wanted that guitar so bad," Scott said on pit road after the event. "Everybody wants that Les Paul guitar by Sam Bass - it's the coolest trophy out there. Tonight wasn't our night to get it and Ron Hornaday, Jr. - he's a legend, he's the man in the truck series. I congratulate Ron on five in a row - that's an awesome accomplishment. I hope someday to accomplish something like that in my career. Our Albertson's Toyota Tundra was just great. I wish I could have taken a Toyota to victory lane tonight for Toyota and for everybody here. The fans - I have to thank all of them for sitting through the rain storm. We took a run at it. We just weren't quite good enough. I'm real proud of my guys, this whole Xpress Motorsports organization is really clicking right now. I'm really happy about second - that was a good run."

Scott's weekend started off well. He was quickest in the last practice session on Friday evening and then qualified his Toyota Tundra in the third position with a time of 30.302 seconds which translates into 158.366 mph on Nashville Superspeedway's 1.33 mile high banked oval. At the start of the event Scott settled into the fourth position and held his ground until a NASCAR mandated competition caution flag fell on lap 35. Crew chief Jeff Hensley called Scott down pit road and the Xpress Motorsports crew executed a near perfect four tire pit stop on lap 37. Scott came down pit road again on lap 38 for fuel and suffered a snafu during fueling that relegated him to the 13th position on the restart on lap 49. Scott climbed back into the top 10 on lap 77. When the caution flag fell on lap 83 for debris on the track Scott once again came down pit road for a decisive pit stop. Hensley made a gutsy call putting on only two right side tires on lap 85. The pit gambit placed Scott second in the running order. Despite only taking on two fresh right sides, Scott held his own challenging then-leader Jason White and battling Hornaday Jr. At one point the trio wen t three wide for the lead on the frontstretch with Hornaday Jr. taking the top spot and Scott settling for the second position. Over the last 50 laps Scott held off Timothy Peters and Colin Braun for second. When Terry Cook's exploding tire brought out the caution with only two laps to go, that set up a green-white-checker dash for the cash between Hornaday Jr. and Scott. Unfortunately for Scott he had a right front tire going down and in the end it was close, but no guitar.

"We had a restart there and I didn't know if he was okay on fuel or what," Scott added. "But, as soon as we took the green and went into the corner I was just tighter and figured out we had a right front tire going down. We didn't have the front end grip and the turning like we needed to, to take a shot at Ron. I tried and he was just awfully good. But, second for our Albertson's Toyota Tundra is pretty good tonight. On the competition caution, we took four tires and almost everybody else took two -- we just wanted to look at everything. We didn't think that left side tires were wearing as much as right sides. So, on the next stop that allowed us to go for just two right sides and keep our left sides. That got our track position back that we surrendered so badly on the first stop. It gave us a chance to make a run at the win, but we were just a little too tight to do it."

The winner was well aware of Scott's lurking presence at the end of the event. He was just able to keep Scott at arm's length and prevent any last lap heroics by the 21 year-old Idaho native.

"I had the one armed bandit hounding me at the end," Hornaday Jr. said in the winner's press conference after the race. "If he could have caught me he would have bumped me to get by. Brian Scott is a good friend of mine. We drink a lot of pop together and a lot of barley pop together. He ran a really good race tonight."

"Ron is a really good friend of mine." Scott said. "He has been a big part of my development. He has taken me under his wing and taught me some of the finer points of racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, like getting better restarts. That is one of the reasons I have been able to put myself in a position to challenge him late in some of these races. My hat is off to him. Wow, five wins in a row that is a heck of an accomplishment."

Hornaday Jr. was joined in the top-five at the Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway by Scott, Braun, Peters and Matt Crafton. Scott climbed up one spot to fifth in the NCWTS points race, only 7 markers out of the fourth position. The next race for the NCWTS is the O'Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor20Speedway. The event is slated for Wednesday August 19th and will be telecast live on SPEED at 8:00pm ET. It will also be broadcast live via radio worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and on SIRIUS Satellite Radio NASCAR channel 128.
