TEAM CHEVY SILVERADO INSIDE THE GARAGE AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY
DAYNE PIERANTONI, GM RACING SILVERADO PROGRAM MANAGER, NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES:
"Martinsville has really become more of a strategy and fuel mileage race over the last couple of years. Going into this week we have a couple of unknowns which will hopefully bring a different complexion to the race. First, we have NASCAR's new this season pit stop rules which require separate stops for fuel and tires. And second, Goodyear will be supplying a new right side tire for this weekend's race. This could drastically change the way the race plays out. The teams will still need to pit as soon as possible for fuel to get that out of the way. The tires however may be a different story. Lately, there hasn't been much lap time fall off during a race run. If the new tire is softer and causes the lap times to fall significantly during a run it will become a poker game between the crew chiefs trying to decide when to put on tires. The last two spring races have seen at least 15 cautions so it will be tough to determine the optimal time to pit in order to keep track position and still be strong during the closing laps.
We have a great lineup in our Chevrolet Silverado race trucks this week. Last year's winner, Dennis Setzer will be driving the MRD Chevrolet. KHI's Ron Hornaday will be looking for a win after leading more than 150 laps at Martinsville last fall. Joining Hornaday from the KHI stable will be teammates Ricky Carmichael and Kevin Harvick, who is making his second truck start this year and coming off his NASCAR Nationwide Series win for KHI last weekend at Bristol. Matt Crafton and Johnny Sauter have also run very well on the short tracks so I expect to see the ThorSport Racing Silverados up front as well."
