The Sylvania, Ohio native will be making his 18th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. Cook has completed 98.7 percent of all laps he has attempted there. He has two top-five and five top-10 finishes at the paper clip-shaped short track. Cook has no DNF's in Martinsville in a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Truck.
Cook will pilot chassis no. Six this Saturday. This particular chassis has not raced since 2007. Terry Cook raced it that year at ORP (26th), Milwaukee (13th), Mansfield (12th), and Martinsville (15th and 29th).
The No. 25 HT Motorsports driver has two wins, four poles, 10 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes in 88 short track starts.
Terry Cook on Keys to Short Track Racing:"Everything has to play out in your favor to win a race. You can't have anything knock you out of the ballgame early and try to make it up in Martinsville. Short tracks are not as forgiving as speedways. At a speedway you can lose a few spots on pit road and make it up in no time, but on a short track that ground is impossible at times to make up. So the key is qualifying well, and stay there. Keep the doors and fenders on the truck until the last few laps and then it is anyone's ballgame. Make smart calculated decisions to get to the next position and always think ahead. You have to watch about three trucks in front of you to see where the chain reaction will ha! ppen because you have no time to react hardly."
The Root of the Series:"We should expect to see a lot of pushing and shoving, maybe even some tempers flaring. Back in the day in the trucks there was a lot of shoving around on the track to get the position you wanted. These days it is kind of the gentleman act but sometimes you get a racer in there and he is just going to take that position he wants from you. Hey that is what makes this series so great to watch. The fans love short track racing and so do the drivers. It is fun to go out there and be able to lean on each other a little to get a position. Short track racing brings out the best and the worst in some of us."
Owner Jim Harris on Being the Martinsville Home Team: "I find the race in Martinsville very rewarding for me. As a young-teen man I would come and sit on the concrete seats in turn four and get covered up with black rubber and inhale the fumes. I think the fumes got to me, as I never recovered and am still hooked."
