Despite earning two Clark Cup Championships as a Tier 1 AAA hockey star, Iowa native Michael Annett always had a burning passion for horsepower and speed. The 22 year-old honed his talents behind the wheel and work his way through ASA before making history at Talladega Superspeedway last fall. Annett became the first driver to score a win for Toyota in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. This weekend, Annett heads to Phoenix International Raceway for the Lucas Oil 150. In his eighth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, his first at PIR, Annett hopes to break the veteran lock-down on PIR's victory lane.
"I am extremely grateful to Bob Germain and Mike Hillman Sr., as well as the entire group at Germain Racing, Toyota, and Construct Corps for providing this opportunity," said Annett about the chance to drive for Germain Racing at Phoenix. "Last year at Talladega's ARCA race, we were able to make the most of a new situation and share my first win with Toyota's first in the series. Now, being able to work with the team that gave Toyota their first Truck Series championship will hopefully allow for great things. (Teammate) Todd Bodine runs very well at Phoenix and the Germain Racing team brings a lot of knowledge about the track that will hopefully make my Truck Series track debut a good one."
Annett kicked off 2008 by backing up his Talladega triumph with a win in the ARCA RE/MAX Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway. In five ARCA RE/MAX Series races, Annett collected one win, three top-5, and four top-10 finishes. He has raced in seven NCTS races earning runner-up honors at Kentucky Speedway, a sixth-place showing at Milwaukee and an 11th-place finish at Memphis. Annett is looking forward to his "Valley of the Sun" debut.
Annett will have an action-packed weekend at PIR. On Thursday, Nov. 6th, he pulls double duty in NCTS and the popular USAC Silver Crown Series. In preparation for the "Copper World Classic," Annett's #12 TMC Transportation USAC Silver Crown team will have two practice sessions (12:45 and 2:15 p.m. ET) and qualifying (5:00 p.m. ET) before the green flag is scheduled to drop at 9:40 p.m. ET.
In the midst of USAC race day, Annett has two practice sessions in the #9 Construct Corps Tundra (5:45 and 7:30 p.m. ET). He will return to the Construct Corps Tundra on Friday, Nov. 7th, for qualifying at 4:30 p.m. followed by racing action, live on SPEED and your local MRN affiliate. The green flag waves at 8:00 p.m. ET.
