GAUGHAN: Looking to Protect His Turf at Phoenix
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

The International MaxxForce Diesel team will utilize chassis CB-24 this weekend at PIR. CB-24 is a new chassis for 2008 developed specifically for Gaughan's use. It was most recently driven to a 20th-place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in September. It has also raced been raced at ORP (6th) and The Milwaukee Mile (16th).

In his seven previous starts at PIR, Gaughan has five lead-lap finishes and has been running at the finish in all seven races.

Gaughan currently occupies the 14th position in the driver point standings, 207 points out of top 10.

Gaughan's Thoughts on PIR: "We're heading back to the West Coast, which I've always considered my turf, and I want to protect my turf. Phoenix is one of those tracks that I've had success at and I've struggled at, but it's a phenomenal race track. It's one of those St. Louis-like places. It's unique in that it is its own animal. One and two is a tight, tight corner with decent banking and three and four is super-flat.

"It's a ton of fun to drive, but miserable for a crew chief because your driver is always screaming out that there's no grip in three and four and the truck is too tight in one and two. Crew chiefs have to work their tails off, but it's a fun race track for a driver to race. I've tried everything I could there to get good runs, even running on the apron in one and two trying to make the truck turn. It's a place you can try so many different lines at, and as a driver, it's a place you enjoy racing at."
