LAWLER: Rookie Getting a Texas Homecoming
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Ryan Lawler has teamed up with Billy Ballew Motorsports for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Chevy Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, October 31st.

The Texas event will be Lawler's eighth-career NCTS start and his first with Billy Ballew Motorsports, but it will not be the 21-year-old driver's first with many of the staff and crewmembers of his new team.

"I'm really excited about hooking up with the Billy Ballew Motorsports crew," said Lawler.  "I got to work with Richie Wauters (Billy Ballew Motorsports Crew Chief) a little bit back in 2006 when I ran some NASCAR Southeast Series races with his team.  Plus, working with Robert Hamke in the Super Late Models, I got to know a lot of the guys over there.  I also got to hang out with (Billy Ballew Motorsports teammate) Kyle (Busch) at the Winchester 400 and practiced his car for him.  I've developed a pretty good relationship with him.

"I think we'll be able to lean on each other's shoulders on setup stuff to get going pretty good.  It's awesome being able to work with those guys again."

Even though Texas will be the young driver's first Craftsman Truck Series start for Billy Ballew Motorsports, it will not be the first time that a Lawler piloted one of the team's trucks.

"My dad (Patrick) drove the #15 truck for Billy back in 2001.  It was a red Ford at the time.  I think it's pretty cool that I'll be able to run something that my dad drove, too."

Lawler will be making his eighth NCTS start at a track located just a few miles from his boyhood home of Colleyville, Texas.  Texas Motor Speedway is a place quite familiar to the young racer, as Lawler has run there once before in a Truck (he finished 18th earlier this season) and has won scores of races in his early racing career on the infield quarter-mile track with his Legends Cars and Bandoleros.

"Going to Texas again is going to be awesome," added Lawler.  "I've won a bunch of races there, but they've all been on the quarter-mile.  I'd like to go out and have a solid run there this time out and have a good show for the hometown fans and the Billy Ballew Motorsports guys."

Lawler had originally partnered with TRG Motorsports for the Chevy Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway, but those plans were forced to change due to circumstances beyond Lawler's control.

The Chevy Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway is scheduled for a 9pm ET green flag live on SPEED.
