CRAWFORD: Returning Home to Talladega
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

The Circle Bar/Power Stroke Diesel by International team will utilize chassis CB-4 this weekend at TSS. Chassis CB-4 is the team's workhorse on two superspeedways - Daytona and Talladega. It was raced to a fifth-place finish in the season-opener at Daytona and finished second last year at Talladega, a mere .014 seconds behind race-winner Todd Bodine.

Crawford has completed all but one lap of competition in the 19 races so far this year -  3223 laps out of a possible 3224 laps.

Despite his sixth-place finish last race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Crawford slipped two spots to sixth in the driver point standings, but gained ground on points-leader Johnny Benson and is now 246 points out of the lead.

In 291 career Craftsman Truck Series starts, Crawford has posted 148 top-10 finishes - a mark of 50.9%.

In his truck series career, Crawford has been running at the finish of 264 races, the most of any driver in the series and a mark of 90.7%.

Crawford has logged over 50,000 miles in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition, the most of any driver in the series.

Crawford will make his 292nd start - extending a Series record - this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Crawford's impressive string of race starts began at the Walt Disney World Speedway on January 19, 1997.

Crawford's Thoughts on Talladega Superspeedway:

WHAT ARE YOUR GENERAL IMPRESSIONS OF RACING AT TALLADEGA? "Just the vision of Talladega Superspeedway. It's in your home state, and knowing the excitement that it brings to the fans and the excitement that it brings to the drivers, it makes you proud to be from Alabama. It lives up to its name. It lives up to what NASCAR and Bill France tried to build. It's just a lot of memories, and legends can be built at Talladega."

CAN WE EXPECT THE SAME KIND OF RACING AND FINISH THIS YEAR? "Sure you can. It's going to be a close, tight race. The trucks are putting on the best shows in NASCAR, I believe. TV ratings are up, SPEED Channel is up, and Talladega is always big and bold and always produces a great race."

DO YOU HAVE ANY MEMORIES ABOUT TALLADEGA THAT STAND OUT IN YOUR MIND? "I have a couple. Three actually. The first one was when I was a spectator -at a young age - and I was in the garage area and the first person I saw was Richard Petty. I had never seen him face to face, and I just thought he was a giant. I don't know, it was one of those moments where you stand still and dream for a few minutes after you see probably the sport's greatest hero."

"The second one was, I remember sitting in what they used to call the OV Hill Grandstands. It was a covered grandstand, and the cars were firing up for the Talladega 500 and I noticed a car down there that wouldn't crank. The owner of the car was named Jimmy Crawford, and he actually drove a few races. But that particular day it was driven by Dick Brooks, and I knew he was behind because he had a hard time cranking the car and he finally got the car cranked, and it was just a deal where it kinda caught my eye because the guy that owned it had the same name as I did. So, I watched that car all day and pulled for it all day, and it ended up winning the race. So that was pretty neat.

"The third thing that comes to mind is that I'm able to race there, have fun and put on a great show for the fans. I came across the start-finish line last year in a three-wide finish and placed second to Todd Bodine. That memory will last no matter the outcome."

WHAT WOULD A WIN AT TALLADEGA MEAN TO YOU? "Just being part of it is enough. Let's talk about winning, but you may not be able to fulfill that opportunity, so let's not be dejected about it. Just being able to participate at a race track of that size and that magnitude with that much history means enough to me."

WHAT IF YOU ARE IN THE SAME POSITION AS LAST YEAR ON THE FINAL LAP? "I know what to do this year. I'll do something different this year. I know what to do. After that race last year, I've re-run that last lap a thousand times, and I wouldn't have done anything different, particularly with the way my truck was running that day. I do know what to do different now after being in that situation. I've won from that situation (Daytona 2003) and I've run second in that situation, and I know what to if that situation comes about again to win the race."

BEING IN THE MIDST OF THE POINTS CHASE HEADING INTO TALLADEGA, DO YOU APPROACH THE RACE ANY DIFFERENTLY? "W-I-N. The points will take care of themselves. I'm going to Talladega to win."
