SPRAGUE: Looking to Rebound at Talladega
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

LAP LEADER: Jack Sprague, driver of the No. 2 American Commercial Lines (ACL) Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Chevrolet, ranks third among Truck Series drivers in laps led at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Sprague has led 30 laps in two Truck Series starts at the 2.66-mile facility trailing only Johnny Benson and 2007 Talladega winner Todd Bodine.

KHI DEBUT WEEKEND: KHI will field an ARCA entry for Camping World East Series stand out Ricky Carmichael.  Making his ARCA debut in the ARCA Remax 250 at Talladega Superspeedway, Carmichael is best known as the most successful motocross racer in American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) history. He has five Supercross championships, 10 national outdoor championships and a total of 150 professional race victories, including multiple titles in the worldwide Motocross-of-Nations event. Carmichael also recently won X Games gold medals in Moto X racing and step-up competition. As he attempts to make his mark on the world of Stock Car Racing, he currently sits seventh in the Camping World East Series points standings and has recorded one pole, three top-five and seven top-10 finishes driving for Ken Schrader Racing.

Jack Sprague Quotes:

WHAT MAKES RACING AT DAYTONA AND TALLADEGA DIFFERENT? "Talladega is more of a horsepower race track.  Daytona really requires more of a set-up and is more sensitive to handling issues.  At Talladega it really is all about horsepower and staying out of the wrecks. At these superspeedways you are at the mercy of those around you. "

THIS YEAR YOU HAVE A TEAMMATE TO DRAFT WITH, DO YOU THINK THAT GIVES YOU AN ADVANTAGE OVER THOSE WITHOUT TEAMMATES? "I think so.  Ron and I have always worked well together.  If we can make it work so that our trucks work well together and we can safely reach each other we will work together. Having a teammate is always an advantage at a drafting track like Talladega."

WHY DO YOU THINK ONLY ONE DRIVER UNDER THE AGE OF 40 HAS WON A TRUCK SERIES SUPERSPEEDWAY RACE? "I think restrictor plate racing lends itself to the older, veteran drivers because honestly it takes a while to figure out this type of racing. None of us grew up racing at any track of this caliber on our late model circuits so we have all had to learn.  It takes some getting used to running in the draft and figuring out how to maneuver a truck through the air stream.  Until recently most of the veteran 'over-40' crowd have had the best equipment on the track in the Truck Series.  I think the key to winning at places like Talladega and Daytona is a combination of experience, discipline and good equipment.  The veteran drivers in this series have had that and I think as a result they have been the ones in victory lane at the end of the day."

ALABAMA GANG: The No. 2 ACL team tire specialist Randy Armstrong and KHI shock specialist and driver of the KHI No. 33 Nationwide car, Cale Gale call Mobile, Alabama home.  Armstrong and Gale have been racing together for several years. Armstrong was apart of Gale's 2001 Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway late model championship winning team.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 2 ACL team will bring chassis number 020 to Talladega Superspeedway.  Chassis 020 is the team's primary speedway truck.  This truck qualified fifth for the Truck Series season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and finished in the 19th position following an on-track incident early in the event.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Sprague and the No. 2 ACL team had a disappointing finish two weeks ago at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Sprague was involved in a crash on lap 78, while running in the eighth position.  The No. 10 of Brendan Gaughan got loose underneath Sprague and sent the No. 2 truck hard into the outside wall.  Sprague sustained major rear-end damage, and the team was unable to make repairs, relegating Sprague to a 26th-place finish.
