TOYOTA RACING: Camping World 200 Pre-Race Notes
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

TUNDRA HISTORY:  This weekend's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) race at the 1.25-mile Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis will be the fourth trip to the track for Toyota Tundra teams.  Tundras have claimed wins in the past two seasons with both Todd Bodine (2006) and Johnny Benson (2007).  Tundra driver Skinner earned the first and only pole award for a Toyota at the track in last year's event.

COMING UP ON CENTURY MARK:  The 2006 NCTS champion, Bodine, will make his 100th start in a Toyota Tundra this weekend in St. Louis.  In addition to earning the first NASCAR championship for Toyota, Bodine has also recorded 13 wins in his Germain Racing Tundra.  "To have represented Toyota in 100 races is an honor for me," says Bodine.  "Toyota is a great company, with great people and I'm very proud to represent them with Germain Racing."

TODD ON TOYOTA:  "To get my 100th start in a Tundra at Gateway is cool," says Bodine.  "Our win here in the Lumber Liquidators Tundra in 2006 was the beginning of our run to secure Toyota's first NCTS championship.  It was a big honor for me to win that championship and it was a big honor for the whole Germain Racing team.  With the way Toyota and TRD (Toyota Racing Development) approach racing, I knew they would be successful.  When I began driving a Tundra in 2004, it took some getting used to with the way Toyota and TRD worked. It didn't take long to see and unders tand that it was a benefit for everyone involved."

HOMETOWN DEBUT:  St. Louis-native Chrissy Wallace will be making her hometown racing debut in the No. 03 Germain Toyota Tundra this weekend at Gateway International Raceway.  Wallace has competed in three NCTS races in her career -- Martinsville (18th), Milwaukee (20th) and Kentucky (33rd).

GATEWAY LAP LEADER:  Statistically, the best NCTS driver at Gateway is two-time winner and 2005 NCTS Champion Ted Musgrave. He retains the all-time lap-leader title at Gateway with 382.  "I know in 2005 we led all but two laps which is just incredible knowing the way the competition is in this series these days," says Musgrave of his 2005 win.  "It was really neat to be so dominant. We made a pit stop and didn't win the race off pit road but we easily retook the lead. You don't have too many days like that." FOUR IN 10:  Four Tundra drivers are in the top-10 in the NCTS championship race.  Benson still leads the standings and now has a 119-point advantage over defending NCTS champion Ron Hornaday, Jr.  Bodine, the 2006 NCTS champion, is fourth, followed by two-time NCTS champion Skinner (fifth) and Terry Cook (ninth).

NINE IN '08:  Tundra drivers have registered nine NCTS wins in 2008.  Benson (Milwaukee, Kentucky, Indianapolis and Nashville) and Busch (California, Atlanta and Bristol) have each won multiple races.  Tundra racers Bodine (Daytona) and Speed (Dover) each have one NCTS victory in 2008.
