WHITE: Salvages Top 20 After Bristol Chaos
Jason White qualified the #08 GunBroker.com Dodge in 21st place for what would be a record night of cautions for the O'Reilly 200 at Bristol (TN) Motor Speedway on Wednesday night. Despite the wreck filled race, which is typical of the Bristol short track, White moved the GunBroker.com team forward early in the race. He maintained inside the top-15 for most of the night.
White avoided several wrecks including a very near miss when 2-time Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson lost control of his truck. White dropped to the bottom of the track and slipped pasts the spinning truck of Johnson. It was one of many wrecks that White avoided.
"You definitely had to be on top of things out there tonight," said White. "We avoided a lot of the mess and we were moving forward with a great truck."
Keeping his truck clean and moving forward it appeared White was headed for a top ten finish. White's truck was getting stronger in the late laps of the race. He was winning a battle for 12th place when his truck was hit from the right side sending him spinning around. White amazingly kept his truck from hitting the wall and was able to continue the race, but lost several positions. In the final laps White battled back to finish 18th.
"Once again we were right there on the edge of finishing inside the top ten," said a frustrated White. "I know its Bristol, but it's tough because we had such a fast truck. I was moving into 12th and I think the speed we had going I would have passed a few more trucks. I couldn't believe it when I got hit. Fortunately I was able to keep it out of the wall and we salvaged a top 20."
"We are running well right now and we can't let this race get us down," added White. "We'll just keep moving forward."
