In a race marred by cautions, Chad Chaffin and the Key Motorsports crew capitalized on the opportunity to bring home their best finish of the season. Chaffin drove the #40 Westerman Companies Chevrolet to a 13th place finish.
With a race of consistent battles, mainly with the outside wall, Chaffin maintained top-20 running positions throughout the night. The solid top-15 run advanced Chaffin up one spot in the driver's standing to 23rd, and owner Curtis Key up two spots to 28th in the owners standing.
"I am really happy with the truck and our run altogether," says Chaffin. "O'Reilly Raceway Park is a really good track and allows for great racing with good passes. When you are running two and three wide there, you are just bound to get caught up in a mess."
"We were just crossing our fingers hoping not to get caught up in one, and it worked. We had a great performance overall with a good motor, and the guys worked really hard and did well. We had a slight mechanical issue that may have hindered us a bit, but we had a great night."
Lance Hooper, Crew Chief of the #40 Westerman Companies Chevrolet, attested the good run by "a great team effort." "Over the past few weeks, we have had great performances as a team, but unfortunately our finishes have not reflected that. We just put the same effort in at O'Reilly and it worked in our favor. This is what we needed to continue to show our competitiveness."
This week brings forth another off week for the series, and Chaffin is going to take the time to prepare for next week's race at Nashville. "I am going to relax and maybe golf a little, but I am definitely looking forward to Nashville."
