NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Todd Bodine has been in the throws of the tightest points chase in Truck Series history, leading and now, after a great run at Kentucky was spoiled, he has fallen to sixth. This might way on the minds of Bodine and the crew, but all you're hear them talk about is getting a short track victory for Germain Racing. The no. 30 Lumber Liquidators Tundra has improved its finish position in each of its three races at O'Reilly Raceway Park. A victory would mean a lot to Bodine and crew.
"Everyone talks about how our team performs so well at intermediate-type tracks. Well, we perform well at short tracks, too, but we just haven't had that many finishes to show what we've been able to do with our Lumber Liquidators Tundra and our short track program," said Bodine, who sits 110 points behind the leader in this season's wild championship battle.
Bodine rolled off the starting line in third place to start last year's rain-dotted 201-lap race. He finished sixth.
"I've heard it compared to 200 laps of road rage, and that's a pretty good analogy. O'Reilly Raceway Park is a typical short track. You've got to keep your head on straight. You're gonna get bumped and you can't get mad about it, you just keep on digging. You have to keep focused on your race. And, I hate to say it after the trouble we ran into at Kentucky, but you've got to have some good luck on your side when you're racing at a track like ORP," said Bodine.
A veteran NASCAR racer, Bodine has raced on tracks many NASCAR fans never saw before they were retired from the circuit. Of all places he's raced, he says there's nothing like ORP.
"O'Reilly Raceway Park is its own animal. There's nowhere else we race that can prepare a driver for
ORP. It used to be right up by the outside wall was the fastest way around the track, now that's kind of wore out so the groove has moved down a bit and it's got a few bumps. It's totally different than any track we race. I like racing at O'Reilly Raceway Park. It's challenging for a driver. We've had some good finishes there in the Lumber Liquidators Tundra and we're hoping to have a good race on Friday night," said Bodine.
If there's one thing Bodine could hand out in the Rookie Meeting on Friday morning at ORP, he'd pass out patience.
"If there's one thing I could hand out to each and every rookie before we get on track at O'Reilly Raceway Park, it would be patience. You can't have too much there."
