SCOTT: Rookie Debut On Tap at ORP Indy
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Brian Scott gets a chance to tackle one of racing's trickiest layouts when he makes his first visit to O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis this weekend for the Power Stroke Diesel 200. Friday night's event will present a new and unique challenge for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie and his No.16 Albertsons Chevrolet Silverado. The .686 mile oval is notorious for its flat and tight turns and has baffled many a competitor in its storied history.

"I know that ORP has quite a reputation," Scott said. "It is a one-of-a-kind racetrack and I am going into it with an open mind. My first objective in practice will be to figure out the right line. The second thing we need to do is figure out the truck and dial it in where it needs to be to go fast. We will go after what we need from a speed perspective and what we need for the race. Since it is my first time at ORP I am sure I will talk with some other drivers and get their feedback. Hopefully we can have a good weekend with the Albertsons Chevrolet."

It has been a busy week for Scott. The 20-year-old Idaho native ran the ARCA race at Kentucky, winning the pole and finishing fifth, as well as running the NCTS event at Kentucky last weekend. He tested his Venturini Motorsports ARCA entry at Nashville on Tuesday and unofficially topped the speed charts this afternoon at Nashville Superspeedway, circling the 1.33-mile concrete track in 29.44 seconds, for a speed of 162.636 mph. He was followed by Matt Hawkins, Justin Allgaier, Jesse Smith, Scott Speed and Sean Caisse.

"The Venturinis put together a great piece and Billy Venturini has been very helpful to me this year so I can't say enough about that organization," said Scott. "The test went well. We're excited to come back to Nashville in August and try to get our first win in the ARCA RE/MAX Series."

Xpress Motorsports is also participating in the Craftsman Urban Youth Racing program with its 2008 Craftsman Career Development Program by hosting intern Jarel Harris. Harris, a 20 year-old native of Washington, D.C. assisted the team in their preparations for Indy.

"It has been fantastic working with the Xpress Motorsports team," Harris said. "It has been a life changing event. Getting to see how the race team prepares each week building trucks, installing engines and practicing pit stops has been an eye opening experience. Hopefully at some point in my future I will have the chance to work full time with a race team. This might help me reach that goal. I am really looking forward to the race at Indy."
