T.J. Bell made his fifth career start for TRG Motorsports on Saturday in the No. 7 Iams Home4theHolidays.org Chevrolet, finishing 25th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series' Built Ford Tough 225 at the 1.5-mile oval of Kentucky Speedway. Bell ran strong until a late race tire issue forced him to pit road under green flag conditions and kept him from contention in the "Bluegrass State".
Coming off a two-week break, the Reno, Nevada native was anxious to return to racing. "I'm really excited to get back behind the wheel of our Home4theHolidays.org Chevrolet after our two-week break. I've raced at Kentucky Speedway twice in a truck and have also raced there in an ARCA car. I'm confident heading into the race that we can get a good, solid run because the guys on our team have been working their hearts out on our intermediate track program and I feel like we've been making gains every week, regardless of the type of track that we're racing on."
When Bell took the green flag for the start of the Built Ford Tough 225, it was obvious that all their hard work had paid off. Bell quickly worked his way from his 21st starting spot and into the 14th position by lap 18. "It's pretty sturdy here boys," he said to the crew. Just four laps later, NASCAR displayed the caution flag for fluid on the tracks surface and Bell hit pit road for four tires, fuel, and a track bar adjustment returning to the track in 30th position. As soon as the green flag waved for the restart, Bell bolted through the field - picking up nine spots along the way - before he keyed the radio to tell the crew that he was "loose getting in now".
Despite a "loose" truck, Bell battled within the top-20 before hitting pit road again, under caution on lap 54, to take on four fresh Goodyear tires, fuel, and a wedge adjustment. Bell picked up two spots on pit road and returned to the track 18th. When the race resumed, Bell battled his way past four trucks and into 14th position but a vibration occurred and he was forced to pit for four tires and fuel.
NASCAR penalized the team for speeding on pit road with a pass through penalty, which put the team three laps down and in 30th position. Bell didn't let that get him down as he drove to 25th position by the drop of the checkered flag.
"We had a great truck," said Bell after the race. "The guys all did a great job. I thought we had a tire going down so we pitted under green and lost a few laps. It's disappointing to have such a great truck and finish 25th but we'll put this race behind us and move on to Indianapolis. We're gaining on stuff and getting better every week and I have no doubt that we'll be even better when we take the Iams Home4theHolidays.org Chevrolet to O'Reilly Raceway Park next week."
Bell will return to the wheel of the No. 7 Iams Home4theHolidays.org Chevrolet this Friday night for the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Live television coverage will begin on the SPEED Channel at 7:30 p.m. ET with radio coverage coming to you live courtesy of MRN Radio.
