HORNADAY: Returning To ORP to Defend Race Title
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Ron Hornaday and the Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado team look to defend their 2007 win in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 this week at O'Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) in the NASCAR Truck Series' annual trip to Indianapolis. In eight career starts at ORP, Hornaday has recorded two wins (2007 and 1997), five top-five and five top-10 finishes. In last year's win at ORP, he started second and led 90 laps en route to the team's third win of the season.

Lucky Number for "33" is "2" at ORP:

Ron Hornaday has picked up two victories at ORP in his NASCAR Truck Series career; the first in 1997 and again last year. Coincidently, both wins have come when Hornaday started the race from the second position. In 1997, he took the lead with two laps to go and held on for his first ORP win. Last year, Hornaday notched his second ORP victory after he led 90 laps. Although starting from the pole position would be a great feat, Hornaday knows starting second would not be that bad either. He has finished third or better in each start at ORP with the KHI team.

Chassis 018 Back on Track:

Crew chief Rick Ren has decided that Chassis 018 will make the trip to ORP this weekend. This is the same truck that Hornaday won with in Memphis on June 28, 2008, after leading 139 of the 204 laps. This truck also ran at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in March and at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park in May.

Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) Back on Board:

For the second time in 2008, the KHI No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado will carry the red, white and blue colors of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States' paint scheme. The No. 33 VFW Chevrolet Silverado debuted on March 29 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and is scheduled to run in four more races, including the Veterans Day weekend event at Phoenix International Raceway.

From The Driver's Seat - Quotes From Ron Hornaday:

On racing at O'Reilly Raceway Park: "I really like racing at ORP. It's such a great feeling to win there with all the history behind ORP and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and I've been fortunate enough to have two wins at ORP. Last year, after the rain delay, we had the best truck out there and
were able to get the win and I feel we'll be a force to be reckoned with again this year.

Atop The Pit Box - Quotes from Rick Ren:

On racing at O'Reilly Raceway Park: "ORP is one of those tracks that fits Ron Hornaday's driving style perfectly: turn it across the bottom part of the race track and push the gas pedal. It's almost all about the driver at this track, but the truck has to be set up so your driver can be aggressive.
The drivers that are aggressive are able to make their way to the front at ORP, but you have to have something underneath them to get them there. It's a slick race track and sometimes it has grip, and sometimes it doesn't. We had a really good set-up in the truck last year, led a lot of laps and won
the race."

Previous Race Recap:

Ron Hornaday and the Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado team finished in the 10th position Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway after overcoming a mid-race issue with a rear wheel.

Hornaday was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop on lap 83 to change all four tires after he felt a loose wheel. He lost one lap in the in the process and was able to race his way into position to received the free pass on lap 119. Hornaday went on to post his ninth top-10 finish of the season.
