GAUGHAN: Tested and Ready for Kentucky
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

- The International MaxxForce Diesel team will utilize chassis CB-15 this weekend at Kentucky. In its race debut last month at Michigan, CB-15 finished fifth with Gaughan behind the wheel. The team also tested CB-15 at Darlington last week in preparation for this weekend's Built Ford Tough 225.

- In his five previous starts at Kentucky Speedway, Gaughan has led 70 laps in competition.

- Gaughan currently occupies the 13th position in the driver point standings, 102 points out of top 10.

- Gaughan will throw out the first pitch in Thursday's Louisville Bats baseball game. The Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, are playing host to the Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.

Gaughan's Thoughts on Kentucky:  "Kentucky Speedway and Kansas are the last two of what they call the old cookie-cutter race tracks, but it's a great race track. The weather has made it a three- and four-wide race track. I've run on the outside there, led a lot of laps there, and had the best truck there one year and lost a motor and let Carl Edwards win the race. I've had good runs there and know how to get around the place. Personally, it's my style of race track. All of the guys in the shop know that getting away from Memphis, where we just had a bad day, they know this is more of a race track that I like. I'm excited about that. We think we should run top five here, just like we did at Michigan and Kansas and Lowe's. We're taking truck 15, which finished fifth in its debut, and we tested at Darlington for this and had a great test. We expect good things."

THOUGHTS ON SMI PURCHASING THE FACILITY. "From what I hear it's not a done deal yet, but I saw what Bruton did to Las Vegas firsthand when he bought that track, and he turned it into one of the premier race venues in all of the sport. Once Bruton owns a race track, watch out. He definitely knows how to run these things. He is the man when it comes to the marketing side of racing. Kentucky, I think, did a great job building it. It has a very unique garage and a nice set of grandstands. Burton will probably add some more grandstands, and maybe put in some condos, and make it a powerhouse in the Midwest."
