WOOD: Setup Changes Pay Off in Qualifying

Jon Wood and the Wood Brothers #21 Air Force Ford F-150 will start Friday night's race at Texas Motor Speedway in 4th position after completing his qualifying lap in 30.696 seconds at a speed of 175.919mph.

For the past several weeks the no. 21 racing team has focused on several different setups that they learned from Jon driving the no. 21 Wood Brothers Sprint Cup Series car and have built on them each week, yet they haven't had the opportunity to implement all of what was learned until now. It looks like their efforts have paid off as it showed in the practice session Thursday afternoon when Jon was scored as the ninth quickest in the final practice with a speed of 173.410mph.

Jon commented on his qualifying run. He said, "It was a good run. We've been trying different spring packages weekly and driving the Cup car (no. 21 Sprint Cup Series car) I've experienced the changes and improvements that we made in the COT and we moved to implement those changes on the truck. Every week we seem to pick up where we left off and now it seems to be paying off."

In addition to his driving duties, Jon paid a visit to the nearby Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, TX on Wednesday, June 4th. The Wood Brothers Racing U.S. Air Force F-150 race truck was on display at the Army, Air Force Exchange building where Jon signed autographs and had the opportunity to fly an F-18 flight simulator. He took his shot at landing the air craft on an Air Craft Carrier. Jon said, "I'd like to thank Good Year for hosting the event, it was a fun day and it was great meeting all of the people on the base. I tried out the flight simulator and finally got to land on the Air Craft Carrier. Maybe I can fly a real one someday."

Watch Jon Wood and the Wood Brothers Racing U.S. Air Force F-150 in the Sam's Town 400 Friday, June 6th at 9:00pm ET on Speed.
