COMPTON: Top-10 Finish in Mansfield Debut

Dodge Driver Stacy Compton finally got the monkey of his back this weekend at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Ohio 250 by scoring a 10th place finish. Before arriving in Mansfield on Friday morning Compton had never seen the race track, but proved his short track background came in handy during the course of the event after starting in the 25th spot. Compton struggled in the opening laps with the No. 4 Spitzer Dodge.

"It will not turn," he said to Crew Chief Bryant Frazier on lap 37 while running in the 26th position. Frazier made a gutsy call later in the race to bring Compton back down pit road for four fresh tires despite his pre-race plan to only pit once. The fresh tires proved to be just what Compton needed to make his way through the field and into 10th place. It was the team's second top-10 finish.

The No. 4 Dodge Ram Race Recap

Compton qualified 25th Friday evening during his first visit to Mansfield Motorsports Park by posting a speed of 106.946mph.

Early in the event Compton struggled with a tight race truck that would not turn in the corners. "I just can't get it to turn," said a frustrated Compton.
The second caution came out on lap 38 for an accident in turn three. Frazier made the call to bring Compton down pit road for service. The Dodge Racing Team made a wedge adjustment and added fuel to the No. 4 Dodge Ram. He restarted in the 26th position.

The third caution waved several laps later for an accident in turn four. A majority of the field hit pit road for service, but Compton and teammate Dennis Setzer elected to stay out. He moved into the 13th spot.

The truck improved as the laps ticked away. "It is a lot better," said Compton. "But I still need more forward bite." Frazier agreed and encouraged him to stay focused.

The sixth of 15 cautions waved on lap 117 for a spin on the backstretch. Frazier made the call to bring Compton down pit road for four fresh tires. "We are not gaining anything where we are now," said Compton coming down pit road. 'I think we have to take tires." The Dodge Racing Team went to work changing all four tires, adding fuel and making a track bar adjustment. He restarted in 23rd position.

The fresh rubber proved to be what the No. 4 Dodge Ram needed. In the final laps of the event Compton was able to work his way back into the top 10.

He finished the event in 10th position and scored his second top 10 of the season.

Donny Lia won the Ohio 250. David Starr finished second, Todd Bodine, Terry Cook and Mike Skinner followed in the top five.
