MITCHELL: Confidence Grows, Improvement Shows
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

"We need to start showing the results that we deserve.  It has just been a real roller coaster of emotions the past few races.  We've had great trucks, solid runs going, and then something happens to ruin our day.  We were in the top-five at Kansas when we got wrecked.  We were in the top-10 at Lowe's when we had a loose wheel.  That's definitely frustrating.  I'd be disappointed if we weren't running well, though. I'm real happy with the equipment we're bringing to the track and the type of runs we're having.  The good finishes will just come in time.

"I'm a rookie and just about every time we go to a track, it's my first time there.  As good as we're running, when we get a chance to go somewhere that I've already raced at, I have a feeling that we're going to have a real shot at running up front.  I don't think that's too far out of reach for us.  We just need to continue to do the things we're doing now and work on the smaller details.  I think some of things that have happened to us have really just been bad luck.  You shake it off and keep going.  I'm excited for Mansfield."

This will be my first Craftsman Truck Series race on a short track this season.  I've never raced at Mansfield before, but I've been running my late model car during our last few off-weekends.  Getting a chance to do that will hopefully give me a head start going into another half-mile race track.  I feel like short tracks are where I came from, so hopefully I can go there and have some success.

"It's probably going to get rough and tumble during the race. The beating and banging is just part of short track racing.  It's not something that I look to go out there and do.  Obviously it's going to happen.  Hopefully we'll get the better end of the stick on that deal.  Somebody's going to end up in the wall or get spun out before the night's over, so the best thing you can do is try to keep your fenders clean and hopefully be there at the end of the race.

"Doug George (crew chief) gave me a great truck last weekend at Charlotte and I'd expect nothing less than that this weekend at Mansfield, especially considering how Denny (Hamlin) ran with it at Martinsville.  This truck can definitely get the job done.  That gives me a lot of confidence going into this race.  I think we'll unload fast and only get better from there."
