COMPTON: Kansas on Top of Favorite Tracks List
► The Virginia native will be making his eighth start at Kansas Speedway this
weekend. He has one Sprint Cup Series start, five Nationwide starts and one
previous NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start to his roster at Kansas.
► The No. 4 Dodge will be sporting the Gladstone Dodge paint scheme this weekend
at Kansas. The Gladstone Dodge dealership was the outstanding sales performer
selling more Dodge vehicles than all the surrounding dealerships for the prize
spot on Compton's No. 4 Dodge Ram.
► Compton will pilot "Timmy" this weekend at Kansas. This chassis ran at
California earlier in the season and scored a 21st place finish. Since
California the team has tested "Timmy" and improved the performance of the truck
in preparation for Kansas.
► Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week kicks off this week. Kansas Speedway
offered its support to the cause by offering free screenings to all fans before
the running of the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 on Saturday. Visit
www.headandneck.org for more
information about Head and Neck Cancer.
Compton on Fuel and More: "The increase in the price of fuel lately is
really hurting our travel budget this season. We have been trying to find ways
around it, but so far it has been an uphill battle. The fuel prices are almost
triple the amount that they were three years ago, it's certainly putting a cramp
on everything we're doing. Instead of us asking for dollars, we're offering to
do things sponsorship-wise if you'll pay for the fuel for the haulers or
something similar to that. When you do your budget at the beginning of the year
you put fuel in the budget and pay for it, but honestly there is no real way to
"know" how much it will cost with the economy the way it is right now. I am not
taking my motor home to Kansas this weekend because I can't justify spending
that much money on it when I can stay at a hotel with the team. It is a battle
we are all facing right now no matter what series you are racing in."
Kansas On Top of Compton's Favorite List: "Even though my finishes don't
show it I really love racing at Kansas. I have had the pleasure of racing at
this track in all three NASCAR series, but racing a truck at Kansas is a lot of
fun. Because the track has a lot of laps on it you can drive just about anywhere
you want. If your truck is not handling to your liking then you can move to the
upper grove or lower grove and search for a better handling. Several tracks we
go to, this is not an option which is why Kansas is one of my favorites."
Team Owner Lori Hamilton encourages everyone to be screened during Head and
Neck Cancer awareness week: "When Bobby was diagnosed he immediately became
an advocate of early detection of head and neck cancer. He asked everyone around
him to get tested, promoted it to anyone who would listen and became a huge
believer in the screening process. It doesn't hurt, is free and the 10 minutes
it takes to do it could save your life. So we are encouraging everyone to please
take advantage of this free screening opportunity."
