STARR: Martinsville Pre-Race Report
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

David Starr on Racing at Martinsville: "I love short track racing and Martinsville is one of the classic short tracks we get to race on in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.  The track is so historic and it is just really cool to be able to race at it and even better to win like we did a few years ago.  I remember watching races here as a kid and it is a dream for me to just race here and being back with Red Horse Racing again gives me hopes of revisiting Victory Lane.   The key as it at most short tracks is to be able to turn very good in the center of the corner and get great forward bite to exit out off the turn - if we get our Toyota Tundra to do that then we will be in a position to fight for the win."

David Starr on Recent Martinsville Test: "I wouldn't say we had the best of test session here last week but it is always a good thing to test anywhere - especially early in the year.  We blew an engine the first day and lost some track time but the second day we really started to get our Toyota Tundra dialed in.  Jamie Jones (crew chief) is great at setting up a truck on short tracks and our success together in 2006 holds high hopes for all of us at Red Horse Racing as we enter the first short track race of the season."

David Starr on Recent Success At Martinsville: "In this Spring race two years ago I had an incredible truck that day and we were just unbeatable and that has really made a world of difference for me at this place.  I think in my last four races at Martinsville I have a win, second and fourth - not too bad.  This track is so treacherous and to finish a race clean is a great day - but to be able to have the finishes I have had the last four times is something I am very proud of.  I think I learned something in that 2006 race win and it has really helped me get around this tough track a little better for sure."

Crew Chief Jamie Jones Thoughts on Martinsville With Changes: "We have had some great success at Martinsville over the last few years and trust me I expect nothing but the same again.  But with the engine and gear changes we have now I think things are going to be different.  I believe that brakes with be at a higher premium for these trucks and that could be a big factor in how the race plays out on Saturday.  I think it will be interesting for sure and we look forward to getting this Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra back to Victory Lane."

Home State Return For Three at Red Horse Racing:  The Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway marks the homecoming for three of Red Horse Racing's team members who hail from the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Crew Chief Jamie Jones is from Virginia Beach and Suspension Specialist Charles "Rowdy" Cannaday is from Chesapeake. Both cities are on the coast of Virginia and are only 20 miles apart but are nearly four and a half hours from Martinsville Speedway.  Catch Can Man Daniel Mrak is from Woodbridge, Virginia which is near the Maryland/Virginia border and is only a half-hour from Washington, D.C.

David Starr's NASCAR Stats at Martinsville Speedway:  David Starr will be making his 14th career start at Martinsville.  He visited Victory Lane at the legendary track in the Spring event of 2006 and also finished second in the Fall race that same year.  In his previous 13 starts at the track, he has six top-10 finishes.  His best qualifying effort was sixth back in the 2003 Spring race.  He has led a total of 121 laps at Martinsville; all in his dominate winning performance in 2006 with Red Horse Racing.
