TEAM NEWS: Roush Fenway Strong in Martinsville Test
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

All three Roush Fenway Racing Ford F-150s were fast during the two-day test at Martinsville Speedway this week.  Colin Braun, Erik Darnell and Travis Kvapil were consistently among the top-10 drivers throughout the test.

During the first session Wednesday morning, Braun paced the team with the third-fastest speed, Darnell was fifth and Kvapil 10th.  Darnell bumped up to second in the afternoon session in his No. 99 Northern Tool + Equipment F-150, while Braun was 12th and Kvapil 13th.

Kvapil came on strong Thursday morning with the second-fastest time before he left during the lunch break to head to Bristol for the Sprint Cup race this weekend.  Braun finished the Thursday morning session in third and Darnell was 17th.  In the final session of the test Braun was fourth in his No. 6 Con-way Freight Ford F-150 and Darnell was eighth.  John Wes Townley also had some seat time Thursday afternoon in the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford F-150 to help him prepare for his first race of the season at Mansfield Motorsports Park in May.

"I'm pleased with how the test went," Darnell said.  "Matt (Puccia, crew chief) and the guys gave me a good truck which I think will be very competitive when we come back for the race.  It's hard to tell what everyone is doing throughout the day at a test since some guys are working on long runs and some are doing mock qualifying runs.  The speed chart doesn't always tell you everything, but I think our truck was really good and this test gave us a chance to try a lot of different things that will help our short-track program all year."

"I think we had a really good test," Kvapil said.  "The Zaxby's F-150 was pretty consistent throughout the test.  You just have to keep working at it to make it turn through the corners and if you can get that where you want it, the rest falls into place.  All the Roush Fenway trucks were good so if we can all stay out of trouble in the race I think we'll have a good run."

"The test went really well," Braun said.  "My Con-way Freight Ford F-150 was fast both days and we had a lot of time to try different set-ups to see what worked the best.  Mike (Beam, crew chief), Hal (Ralston, engineer) and the guys really worked hard to get a lot accomplished that will help us tremendously when we go back for the race in two weeks.  I ran a lot of laps which is great because Martinsville is a tough little track to get around."

The combination of Kvapil, Darnell and Braun at Martinsville have totaled 13 starts, 2 top-five and three top-10 finishes in past races.
