DARNELL: California Fast Facts
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Erik Darnell will make his third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start at California Speedway on Saturday afternoon.

Darnell picked up the second pole of his career last week at Daytona.  It was his first since setting the track record at Nashville in 2006.

The No. 99 team will be bringing chassis RK389-54 to Fontana.  This chassis last raced at Texas in November of '07, where Darnell started 23rd and finished 14th after being involved in an accident.

In 52 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts, Darnell has accumulated one win, two poles, seven top-five and 20 top-10 finishes.

ERIK DARNELL ON CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY: "Fontana will be the first real "race" of the season in a way, it's the first opportunity we'll have to see how the trucks perform under the new
engine rules.  I believe that we'll see Daytona-style racing with big packs running together.  We struggled there last year, but we've got a much better handle on our aerodynamic package this time around.  Hopefully we can be there when it counts and contend for the win."

MATT PUCCIA ON CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY: "Fontana is a big, open track.  You can run from the white line up to the wall.  The track has settled tremendously over the last few years, so it's very bumpy.  Handling plays just as big a role as the aerodynamic package does out here, so we'll make sure we put equal emphasis on both.  We'd like nothing more than to rebound from our disappointing Daytona finish with a top-five finish at Fontana this weekend."
