| MARKS: Running for 2008 NCTS Raybestos Rookie of the Year Honors
01-05-2008 | TruckSeries.com Report
Justin Marks ran his first-ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in a Tundra fielded by Germain Racing in 2007. He made four starts, and collected an eighth-place finish at the season finale in Homestead, Fla. Marks will return to the Truck Series in 2008 to contend for Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors in the #9 Crocs/Construct Corps Tundra. "Throughout my development as a driver, I envisioned myself moving into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Along with that, I always wanted to be in the best equipment possible. When I made a list of teams I'd like to drive for, it was a very short list, with Germain Racing at the top," said Marks. "To drive the Crocs and Construct Corps Toyota Tundra as part of a class act like Germain Racing, with veteran crew members and teammates - obviously it's a terrific opportunity. Germain Racing joined NASCAR's top ranks in 2004 when the team first competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Richmond International Raceway. The fourth place finish that resulted was the spring board to the team's championship success. Germain Racing earned two victories in 2004, five in 2005, three in 2006 and three more in 2007. The team became Toyota's first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champions in 2006, and Germain Racing charged into Busch Series competition in 2007 earning a top-ten finish after leading 15 laps in their first-ever Busch Series race. "Between the team's track record, and the product they put on the race track, there's no question that Germain Racing is the kind of team I want to race for," said Marks, 26, of Rocklin, Ca., who will race the full Truck Series season with a shared primary sponsorship between Crocs and Construct Corps. Germain Racing general manager and spokesman Mike Hillman Sr. is proud to have Marks join the team. "Justin is a very smart young driver. He understands our industry from the business side and from behind the wheel. He learns so much from each trip to the race track, and he's already been putting his marketing skills to work for us with a couple different things. Justin is a great addition to our team," said Hillman who, with Germain Racing's 2006 Truck Series championship title now holds two NASCAR championship titles (Tommy Ellis, 1988, NASCAR Busch Grand National Series). Leading Marks Rookie of the Year campaign will be crew chief Jason Overstreet. "Jason and I first met when we went testing the first time. I respect that he's had some significant success on track. I learn a lot from him, and we are learning a lot about working together," said Marks. Racing for Crocs and Construct Corps in a Tundra is a very special opportunity for Marks. "It pays to be a part of the Toyota racing family because of the commitment they make to the sport. Everything they do is 100% and they have a very bright future in our sport," said Marks. "Driving a Tundra, with two companies on board that have supported my racing career, is a great opportunity for me to get the best racing results for Crocs and Construct Corps. This season is exciting for both companies because they are both getting more aggressively involved in the racing program." In addition to Truck Series competition, Germain Racing will field an ARCA RE/MAX Series car for Marks to give him some extra Daytona experience. Germain has won two or more races each year for a total of 13 wins. Along with the victories, the team earned 4 Bud Pole awards, 54 top-five and 81 top-ten finishes and led 1281 laps in 152 Truck Series races.
