Just five weeks into announcing their takeover of Darrel Waltrip Racing's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team, the newly formed TRG Motorsports is proud to announce their most recent signing to the team, General Manager Marty Gaunt, to run their NASCAR operation in N.C.
As a 25-year veteran of the racing and automotive business, the London-born Gaunt brings with him a wealth of experience and resources, with a history that includes working with such NASCAR teams as Penske Racing, Petty Enterprises, and most recently, the start-up Team Red Bull.
For TRG Motorsports team owner Kevin Buckler, having such a major NASCAR player on board is a major step forward with his new team. "Having Marty under our umbrella and part of our team is a huge step forward for our Truck program. When we announced our intention to go NASCAR racing last Spring, I made a major commitment to our sponsors and partners that we would only align with the best management, crew, drivers, and manufacturers in the sport, and having someone of Marty's pedigree is a major step in delivering on that."
"Kevin and I met at the season finale in Homestead two weeks ago, and I was instantly impressed with his attitude and approach" stated an enthusiastic Gaunt. "TRG has a long history of winning in sports cars and endurance racing, and it's evident in guys like Kevin and their driver Andy Lally that they've been as successful as they have because of their attention to quality, details, and most importantly, people."
As the team's new General Manager (and technically, their first "hire"), Gaunt will take over the day-to-day activities of building up the organization and infrastructure, allowing the team's new owner to focus on the business side, as well as long-term strategy. "Marty is the first step in a long building process for our team, and the sky really is the limit for where this can go," claimed Buckler. "Our success in sports car racing has been built entirely out of allowing guys like Marty do what they do best, allowing me the time to make sure that our partners and investors are getting everything and more out of the program. It was clear in meeting with Marty that he shared the same big picture."
With one of the best General Manager's in the business under their roof, TRG Motorsports can now optimize the off-season to ensure an extremely fruitful debut season in 2008.
TRG was founded in 1993 and has been competing at the top level of sports car racing ever since. TRG Motorsports (the NASCAR division) was founded in the spring of 2007 and is made up of a group of 10 partners, friends and racers. The team has the most wins of any team in the Grand-Am Rolex Series with 23, including the 2005 and 2006 Rolex Series GT championship trophy to go along with wins at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 24 Hours or Le Mans.
