SPEED will open the first three categories of the Second Annual SPEED Performance Awards on Nov. 19, as fans will choose from a selection of video clips posted on SPEEDtv.com (Keyword: Performance) for RACER Magazine Rookie of the Year, "Biggest Hit" and the "Oops Award."
"The SPEED Performance Awards pay tribute to the edge-of-the-seat drama -- the intensely serious to the borderline hilarious moments that happen throughout the racing season," said SPEED President Hunter Nickell. "And it's all about the fans. The video clips posted on SPEEDtv.com will undoubtedly spark memories of a racing season loaded with special moments, with fans given the ability to tell us which ones they enjoyed the most."
Among the nominees for RACER Magazine Rookie of the Year are Lewis Hamilton (Formula One), Robert Doornbos (Champ Car) and Juan Pablo Montoya (NASCAR Nextel Cup Series).
The second series of categories - "Temper, Temper," "Biggest Upset" and "Heartbreak" will open to fan voting beginning Nov. 26 and the final three categories - "Best Rivalry," "Best Finish" and "Tell it Like it Is" will be open to fan voting beginning Dec. 3.
In addition to the fan-selected SPEED Performance Awards, SPEED will once again present the Mario Andretti Trophy to the SPEED Performer of the Year. NASCAR Nextel Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson earned the inaugural award last season.
All of the awards will be part of a one-hour SPEED Performance Awards special to air in February.
