BODINE: Looking for Win Number 5 at Texas
When the Lumber Liquidators Tundra unloads at Texas Motor Speedway,
competitors in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series garage will watch it closely.
The #30 Tundra of Germain Racing has captured four wins at Texas with Todd
Bodine behind the wheel. The win count ties Bodine with Brendan Gaughan for the
most wins at Texas Motor Speedway, but the win count won't help the team get
back to victory lane in Friday night's Silverado 350, according to Bodine.
"We go to every track with the same goal - to win. If one more win at Texas sets
a record, great. But, I have said it before - that I am not one to really look
at past success as a guarantee for future success at any race track," said
Bodine. "The competition is so tough in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, we
have to constantly keep improving the Lumber Liquidators Tundra to get the next
win, even the next top-five. I'm happy to have a lot of victories at Texas, I
love that Eddie Gossage got me a pair of boots for the last win there, and I
really like racing at Texas. But, when we get to the track, nothing matters
except we want to win."
Bodine has explained it before, but the question has not grown old. Is there a
secret to Texas success?
"Texas is our kind of race track and we've been very fortunate to have good
trucks there. I like the track. I don't know - there's definitely no secret, and
we never feel like we have any sort of advantage heading there," said Bodine.
"We like intermediate tracks, and, for some reason, we seem to have good trucks
when we unload at Texas. I don't know what else to say."
Bodine has six starts at Texas Motor Speedway in the Truck Series, four resulted
in wins and one, this past June, came from the pole position. Even before Texas
had worked out the kinks, Bodine enjoyed racing the mile and a half circuit.
"Even the first year (of the race track, 1997), when a lot of guys were talking
about the corners being messed up, I drove the Budweiser car and had a shot to
win but got spun out at the end of the race," said Bodine. "I've just always
enjoyed Texas - when you have a good truck with a good setup, you run good
there."
Bodine will look for win number five at Texas on Friday night. He heads into the
220.5-mile race tied for fourth in the Truck Series points standings. He has two
wins, two pole awards, ten top-five and 15 top-ten finishes.
· Bodine will be making his 7th career NCTS start at Texaws Motor Speedway
· Bodine has earned four NCTS victories and one Bud Pole award at Texas. He is
tied for most wins at Texas with Brendan Gaughan
· Raced Texas in first Cup Series race in 1997
· Texas Notes: Bodine captured his first Truck Series Bud Pole at Texas in June
and followed up with win number four at Texas Motor Speedway.
· Bodine on Texas and that Secret question
"Texas is our kind of track, and
we've been fortunate to have good trucks there. I like the track. I don't know -
there's certainly no secret and we never felt we have any sort of advantage
heading there. Germain Racing is good at intermediate tracks and, for some
reason, we seem to have good trucks when we unload at Texas. I don't know what
else to say."
· On Being Tied for Most Number of Wins at Texas "That's cool
to know that we've
had that kind of success there is nice. I've always run well there, whether in
the Tundra or in the Busch or Cup Series cars. So, it's nice to have that show
up with a statistic like that."
· On Going for the Tie-breaker to Capture the Record for Most Wins at Texas: "We
go to every track with the same goal - to win. If one more win at Texas sets a
record, great. But, I have said it before, that I am not one to look at past
success as a guarantee for future wins at any race track."
· Is there ANY comfort knowing you've had that much success at Texas? "The
competition is so tough in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, we have to
constantly keep improving the Lumber Liquidators Tundra to get the next win,
even the next top-five finish. I'm happy to have a lot of victories at Texas, I
love that Eddie Gossage got me a pair of boots for the last win there, and I
really like racing at Texas. But, when we get to the track, nothing matters
except we want to win. Holding the record for most wins at Texas would be nice,
but having that record on the line won't change my approach, or the team's
approach when we show up at the track."
