Skip McCord picked the perfect time to win his first late model race at the Music City Motorplex.
McCord passed NASCAR Craftsman Truck rookie Willie Allen after a caution with 20 laps to go Sunday to win the Late Model 200 to conclude the Southern 300 and win the Bobby Hamilton Sr. Cup.
"This means a lot period just to win this race," said McCord, a fabricator for Bobby Hamilton Racing. "Bobby was a mentor to me.
"I knew Bobby pretty well. He had a big hand in helping me get started. I learned some valuable lessons from him."
D.W. Shacklett, who also is a BHR Racing fabricator, finished third.
