CHEVY NOTES: Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega Superspeedway Qualifying
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Team Chevy Silverado post qualifying quotes for Saturday's Mountain Dew 250 for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Talladega Superspeedway.

Chad McCumbee, No. 8 TheGPSStore.com/GARMIN Silverado - Qualified 15th
You guys had a pretty good lap out there. How is your truck and what has it been like in the draft? "Its really awesome for Chevrolet right now. We're second, but unfortunately we are a second off the pole. But I told the guys after that, that we will lead the Silverado brigade to the front of the field tomorrow. We worked really good with Kyle (Busch), Brendan (Gaughan), and a few other Silverados yesterday, so we'll see what we've got for them tomorrow."

The manufacturer differences should shake out once we get into that race tomorrow - don't you think? "I think so. I couldn't lead yesterday, but I got up to second a few times. I think we'll get my GPSStore.com Silverado up there again tomorrow too, its just going to be interesting tomorrow. I think most everybody raced the Talladega race last year and everybody's got confidence in this race track now so its just going to be just a little wilder than it was last year, but hopefully everyone will get settled down and Wayne (Auton, series director) will yell at us a little bit, but that will be okay. But like I said it's just an awesome deal for these MRD/Haas guys and they gave me an awesome Silverado today."

Kyle Busch, No. 51 Flanders Beef Patties Silverado - Qualified 29th
How is your truck and what are your thoughts for tomorrow?
"Well, you know Chevrolets are a little bit down anyway and we don't have the intake manifold that some of the other guys, and other manufacturers do. But we'll have a good time tomorrow hopefully and we'll be able to race this Flanders Beef Patties Silverado up front and try to dial it in for a win."

Will you be catching your breath at the beginning of the race tomorrow and how wild do you think this race is going to be? "I'm not sure, but I'm hoping not too wild. It really doesn't need to be wild til the end, you know, not until the last ten or twenty laps. But until that point you just have to be calm because it doesn't matter where you are at or where you are running whatsoever. You just try to ride and get through some pit stops and get to the end of the race. No one is going to win the race at the middle of the event and you are not going to win the race at the middle of the end, it's going to be at the end. So hopefully everyone will keep it screwed down on their shoulders and we can go out there and run a good race."

Willie Allen, No. 13 ThorSport Silverado - Qualified 16th
Qualifying was pretty boring here, but not for you guys, I think you got on the five-minute clock there for a while didn't you? "I didn't think we were going to make it at the start. I think we had a problem with the kill switch on the steering wheel and there was a wire that pulled out inside of it or something. The guys went and got another steering wheel to put on and and I wasn't sure if they were going to make it or not. I tell you what, it's been a drama-filled weekend for our No. 13 Thorsport Silverado team already and the race hasn't even started yet. The race should be a little more exciting and I think our Chevrolet Silverado. We didn't show good in the last practice, but we had lost the right-front splitter during that run. But the truck is good and I think we will be good for the race.

Was sixteenth about as good as you were hoping for? "I thought we could be top-fifteen and actually was thinking twelfth or thirteenth, but it's better than Daytona where we were twenty-fourth. So we stepped it up and the guys are building a new truck for next year."

Ron Hornaday, No. 33 Camping World Silverado - Qualified 13th
Cale Gale, No. 2 Camping World Silverado - Qualified 19th
Matt Crafton, No. 88 Menards/PEAK Silverado - Qualified 21st
Shane Sieg, No. 15 Red Top Auto Auction Silverado - Qualified 25th
Tim Sauter, No. 07 Lester Buildings/ASI Limited Silverado - Qualified 26th
Marc Mitchell, No. 08 People Against Drugs Silverado - Qualified 27th
Regan Smith, No. 47 Ginn Resorts Silverado - Qualified 28th
Brendan Gaughan, No. 77 South Point Hotel Silverado - Qualified 31st
Bryan Silas, No. 71 PBG/Rockingham Speedway Silverado - Qualified 32nd
Chad Chaffin, No. 40 Curtis Key Plumbing Silverado - Qualified 33rd
Clay Rogers, No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Silverado - Qualified 34th
Wayne Edwards, 06 Silverado, Qualified 36th
