Todd Bodine has had a lot of good luck at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but this weekend's trip to the 1.5-mile oval brought the defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion's odds with the track a little closer to even. Entering the weekend, Bodine had six top-five finishes, including two wins, in 11 starts at Vegas. Leaving Las Vegas, the Chemung, N.Y., native still has six top-five finishes in 11 starts and adds a DNF to the score sheet - his first in 54 Truck Series races.
"This is the first DNF in a long time for this team. We had a great truck -- man this Tundra was fast. This is one of our strong suits, these race tracks, especially here in Las Vegas," expressed Bodine. "We made some adjustments that made us get loose and we were trying to catch those guys. I was just hanging on. Obviously, we're all disappointed with the crash damage that disabled the Lumber Liquidators Tundra."
Bodine, though upset about retiring early from the Las Vegas 350, tried to focus on the positive.
"Our Lumber Liquidators Tundra was really strong this weekend. We led some laps, and even with not finishing, we managed to maintain our spot in the points. That's important for us. We'll be back in top shape come Talladega," said Bodine.
Bodine's accident, which brought out the caution at lap 110, left the Lumber Liquidators pit crew with too few laps to make the needed repairs.
"The damage to the Lumber Liquidators Tundra was significant. When we pulled the right front tire off, we were surprised at the damage. It wasn't going to be like Mansfield where the No. 30 crew was able to do an awesome job changing the radiator and getting Todd back out there in only twelve laps. We needed a lot more laps to get the truck driveable, but it's hard to say how many more," said crew chief Mike Hillman Jr.
Germain Racing's No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Tundra had not suffered a DNF since Memphis, 2005 - which was a DNF with one lap to go in the race.
"To be able to have that kind of streak is impressive. Finishing each race involves a lot of factors, including dodging bad luck. It's disappointing to have the DNF from Las Vegas, but it's also kind of a reminder to us of how strong and consistent we've been for so many races," said Hillman Jr.
The next race for Germain Racing's No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Tundra will be at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, October 6th. In the meantime, tune into this weekend's NASCAR Busch Series race on ESPN2. Germain Racing and Bodine will be enjoying their weekend off of Truck Series competition racing the No. 03 GERMAIN Toyota Camry in Saturday's Yellow Transportation 300 at Kansas Speedway.
