TRACK NEWS: Kansas Speedway and The Cordish Company Submit Casino Proposal

Kansas Speedway announced today that it has submitted a proposal for a casino on property owned by the speedway.

Partnering with Kansas Speedway on the potential project is The Cordish Company, one of the largest and most respected developers in the world with extensive expertise in gaming, entertainment & mixed-use, sports-anchored developments, retail, office and residential. The casino proposal was delivered to Unified Government of Wyandotte County officials prior to the 3 PM Central deadline to submit proposals.

"I'm pleased to share our plans for a casino resort here at Kansas Speedway," said Kansas Speedway President Jeff Boerger. "This is an exciting project that could benefit the Kansas City, Kansas community by providing additional jobs and making this area one of the top tourist destinations in the country by integrating both Village West and Kansas Speedway. We look forward to working closely with local officials as we collectively evaluate this substantial opportunity for the region."

The initial development would cost more than $600 million, and include a casino, hotel, and retail and entertainment outlets. There will not be any public incentives given to fund this project.

"Kansas Speedway is committed to giving fans the best possible experience when they attend our events and we believe this is a logical step to providing our guests additional entertainment opportunities," concluded Boerger. "This connection between the speedway and the hotel casino attraction could establish our area as one of the major sports and leisure destinations in the country."

International Speedway Corporation, parent company of Kansas Speedway, is also working with The Cordish Company to develop a retail, entertainment, office and hotel project in Daytona Beach, Fla.
