TRACK NEWS: Villeneuve Tests COT at Kentucky Speedway

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, a former F1 and Indy 500 Champion, continued his preparation for his NASCAR debut by testing today at Kentucky Speedway. He turned laps for Bill Davis Racing in the new Car of Tomorrow.

"Feels great, I'm just getting up to speed and getting used to driving the car," Villeneuve said. "It is very different than anything I have driven before so I just want it to become natural and its fun."

BDR announced two weeks ago that the 36-year old Canadian will use the final seven races of the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season to prep for NASCAR SPRINT Cup Series competition in 2008. Even though the race trucks and the COT have similar aerodynamics, Villeneuve said the machines behave quite differently on the track.

"The Car of Tomorrow is not as responsive. But, the tracks are very different as well. The driving style is different. If it was on a similar type than there would be a huge difference."

Villeneuve is an international champion and has driven all over the world. Alongside Mario Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi, Villeneuve is notable for winning the 1995 CART Championship, the 1995 Indianapolis 500 and the 1997 Formula One Championship. He is one of the rare drivers to achieve all three. Now, he is ready to apply his skills to NASCAR.

"When I was racing in the states, CART at the time, it was fun racing on the ovals and I was missing that a bit in Europe," Villeneuve said. "I did what I had to do in F-1 and I was ready to move onto something else and there is only one other series in the world that is big as F-1 and its NASCAR. "
