| BODINE: Grabs 7th Top 5 Finish of 2007 at Nashville
08-13-2007 | TruckSeries.com Report
For the Germain Racing No. 30 crew and Todd Bodine, driver of the Lumber Liquidators Tundra, the results of the Toyota Tundra 200 weren't what they hoped for. Still, the team locked up another top-five finish after qualifying third and remaining among the top-three and top-five throughout the 150-lap race. "We just missed the setup a little bit. We struggled throughout the race, so to bring the Lumber Liquidators Tundra home fifth, that's ok. We'll take it," said Bodine, recapping Saturday evening's race at Nashville Superspeedway. The Lumber Liquidators Tundra was strong in practice, and qualified third. When it came time for racing action, Bodine radioed that his truck was just a bit tight. He raced to the runner-up position in the early going, then by half-way, was running fourth. "We started off the race tight - a little tight through the center of the corners, and tight on exit. We adjusted during the first pit stop to loosen the truck up, and it got too loose," said Bodine. The team pitted the Lumber Liquidators Tundra twice on Saturday, making a range of adjustments to fine tune the chassis and help the truck adapt to the changing track conditions. The race began in the intense heat of the afternoon, and ended just after dark. "The team did a good job trying to fix the truck throughout the race and I never gave up on it, so we ended up with another top-five effort for Germain Racing," said Bodine. The battle atop the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is one that Bodine knows well. He mastered the lock-down on the points last year, holding the lead for a record-setting 21 races while en route to winning the championship. This year's points race seems to get tighter each week. Saturday's race winner, Travis Kvapil squeezed into the top three, and, as Bodine puts it, making up ground among this year's group of contenders is a tall order. "The only way any of us are going to gain points is for someone to have a bad race. We are all top-five trucks, all the guys in the top of the points, and when that's the way it is, you don't gain points. It's very competitive in the Craftsman Truck Series," said Bodine. Of the top six finishers in Saturday's Toyota Tundra 200, five drivers are in the top five in the points standings and all six are in the top ten. Bodine is currently fourth in the Truck Series points standings. Fellow Tundra driver Mike Skinner continues to lead, followed by Ron Hornaday Jr. and Travis Kvapil. The next race for Todd Bodine and Germain Racing is in the NASCAR Busch Series Carfax 250 at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, August 18th, 2007. Then look for the Lumber Liquidators Tundra to be back on-track on Wednesday, August 22nd, at the newly-repaved Bristol Motor Speedway for the O'Reilly 200.
