Mike Skinner served notice in yesterday's practice that he was the man to beat for the pole at Nashville Superspeedway by leading both of the full-field practice sessions for the Toyota Tundra 200. To no one's surprise, Skinner scored his eighth Bud Pole Award in qualifying for round 15 of the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, and combined with qualifications being canceled by rain at the last race in Indianapolis it means that Skinner will roll from the pole for the ninth time so far the season.
By turning a 30.061 seconds/159.635 mile per hour lap in Bill Davis Racing's No. 5 Toyota Tundra Toyota, Skinner also extends his series record for most career poles with 40.
Jack Sprague qualified second in the No. 60 Con-way Freight Toyota and will start alongside Skinner on the front row. Sprague turned a lap of 30.128 seconds/159.280 miles per hour to give him his best start since he also started outside the front row at Atlanta in March.
Defending series champion Todd Bodine qualified third in the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota with a 30.206 seconds/158.869 miles per hour lap to give Toyota a sweep of the top three positions. Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate Joey Clanton earned his best career starting position with a fourth-place qualifiying effort in the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford. His 30.215 seconds/158.822 miles per hour lap slots him outside the second row for the start. Michael Waltrip Racing development driver Josh Wise, driving for Nashville racing legend Darrell Waltrip, rounded out the top five in qualifying turning a 30.226 seconds/158.764 miles per hour lap in the No. 00 Aaron's Lucky Dog Toyota.
Bill Lester qualified sixth, Ted Musgrave was seventh, Erik Darnell was eighth, Willie Allen was ninth, and defending race winner Johnny Benson rounded out the top ten.
Other notables include ORP winner Ron Hornaday, Jr. in 14th, 2002 Nashville winner Mike Bliss in 16th, and Matt Crafton in 21st.
The green flag for the Toyota Tundra 200 is scheduled to eave shortly after 6:30 P.M Eastern. SPEED will have live coverage, and TruckSeries.com will have complete event coverage throughout the remainder of the day.
