| COMPTON: Truck "Pushes" to 22nd at ORP at Indianapolis
07-30-2007 | TruckSeries.com Report
Stacy Compton didn't hide his frustration following a 22nd-place finish Friday night in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 presented by Ford and International. But after being spoiled by the success of the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford for most of the season, he's learned to expect a lot. Compton started 11th but couldn't find a way to make the truck jump off the second and fourth turns at the O'Reilly Raceway Park. The problem, known as a "push," is when the front tires lose grip and won't turn. The only way to re-gain control is to tap the brakes. Despite the disappointing finish, Compton kept the Wood Brothers/JTG Racing-prepared Ford F-150 on the lead lap. Compton said the team now will accept the finish as a challenge for other short-track races on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule. Compton is sharing the driving duties in the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford with Joey Clanton. When the truck races next, Clanton will be the driver on Aug. 11 at the Nashville Superspeedway. Stacy Compton, driver of the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford F-150: "The crew worked real hard this weekend, but we couldn't get the truck to turn. I'm pretty disappointed. We were racing against some pretty rough racers out there and they were making some big mistakes. Others weren't sure how to race. But it's all part of racing, I guess. What comes around, goes around. We'll work on our short track program and see if we can't make it better." Race News
