CHICAGOLAND (ILL.) SPEEDWAY RACE RECAP: Coming off a weekend in Daytona (Fla.) where rain dictated the team's race events, the No. 77 Dollar General stores team entered Chicago (Ill.) with beautiful weather and a good outlook for the USG Durock 300 at the Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway. As with most teams during the 200-lap race, the Dollar General Stores crew fought the track and battled a tight-handling condition. Through six caution periods the team continued to adjust the No. 77 and Bobby Labonte maintained a top-20 position, bringing the car home in 16th place.
RON HORNADAY QUOTES: THOUGHTS ON GATEWAY (ILL.) INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY: "I know I haven't always had the best of luck at Gateway [Ill., International Raceway], but I really do like the track. When I first started racing there I had to shift a lot, but there have been changes to the track and it's different. Now it's more about the brakes. It's almost two different tracks at once. Turn one is tight and banked and turns three and four are big and flat. The secret is being able to brake in turn one, hit the gas in turn three and not hit the fence in turn four."
CREW CHIEF CORNER WITH WALLY ROGERS: WHAT SET-UP DO YOU GO WITH HEADING INTO GATEWAY, KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE IN THE CORNERS? "We almost have to go with two set-ups for Gateway [Ill., International Raceway]. Out set-up is a cross between Richmond [Va., International Raceway] and Loudon [N.H. International Speedway]. Turns three and four are like Loudon [N.H. International Speedway] and the closest thing to turns one and two is our Richmond [Va., International Raceway] set-up."
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR SUCCESS RATE AT GATEWAY? "I've had some success at Gateway [Ill., International Raceway]. Randy LaJoie sat on the pole there in 2002 for the Busch Series race and in 2005 once I was at KHI [Kevin Harvick Inc.] when we were running second in the Truck Series race and the motor broke."
HOW DOES THE DIFFERENCE IN THE CORNERS AFFECT THE DRIVER'S FEEDBACK OF THE CAR? "Gateway [Ill., International Raceway] is a challenge to both the driver and the crew chief, adjusting the car to work perfectly at each end of the track is really hard. We both have to sacrifice a little to get the car right."
