Ford Race Notes: Milwaukee

Rick Crawford, No. 14 Power Stroke Diesel by International Ford F-150 finished 5th at Milwaukee. (VPS Motorimages Photo)

Rick Crawford - No. 14 Power Stroke Diesel by International Ford F-150 (Qualified 13th, finished 5th)
"Everybody needs to take the Ford Challenge and try one of these Ford F-Series pick-ups. The Power Stroke Diesel by International Ford has the power and durability and is fun to drive. We made some bold moves out there in this Ford F-Series pick-up truck and appreciate all the guys, Kevin "Cowboy" Starland [crew chief] and all the guys. They made some good adjustments in the two pit stops we had; we were really close to making green flag pit stops on both. We had a good top-five finish - the best in class. We're looking forward going to Memphis."

Erik Darnell - No. 99 Northern Tool + Equipment Ford F-150 (Qualified 7th, finished 6th)
"It's what I needed; it's what the team needed. We've struggled in the past five or six races with bad luck. Things happened that were beyond our control and have been frustrating. The Northern Tool + Equipment Ford F-150 was pretty good tonight. It was a little bit tight, but really good on the long runs; we didn't need those cautions at the end. We made adjustments all night long and got the truck running decent. Coming out here with a top-10 finish will give us some momentum going into Memphis."

Travis Kvapil - No. 6 K&N Filters Ford F-150 - (Qualified 5th, finished 8th)
"We had an okay truck in practice. We got it to where we were pretty decent in practice, and then we qualified good. We thought we were going to be right there, contenders, we were close but we never could get that last little bit to really challenge for the win. It is kind of a letdown; we never quite had everything we knew. We started loose and kept tightening it up; then we were just too tight and tried to free it back up. We just never really had a truck to challenge the leaders. It was kind of a letdown. We just have to get everything back together. We're going to Memphis and the track is pretty similar, so we really need to figure it out and run better there."

David Starr - No. 10 International MaxxForce Diesel Ford F-150 - (Qualified 15th, finished 10th)
"Our International MaxxForce Diesel Ford F-150 was pretty good tonight. We just got tight in the center of the corners. I thought we had a pretty good race piece until the race started. The truck just seemed to get tighter and tighter as the race went on in the center of the corner. Dennis Connor [crew chief] and the guys kept freeing it up and it kept getting tighter and tighter. After a while, we probably could have done a few different things. It wasn't a bad night for Circle Bar Racing and the Ford F-150. The team is really working hard and we keep learning, making changes and growing."

Stacy Compton - No. 09 Zaxby's Ford F-150 - (Qualified 25th, finished 12th)
"It was a good night. We had a good truck in practice, and then it cooled down and tightened up a lot more than we thought. The guys made some good calls on pit stops and kept getting us looser and looser. We came away with a decent finish, but I don't know how. The guys did a good job. We got the outside working; we got away from some guys on the restarts. It wasn't a bad night, but not what we were hoping for."

Kelly Bires - No. 21 Bush's Baked Beans Ford F-150 - (qualified 28th, finished 35th)
Note: (Made contact with Ted Musgrave No. 9 Toyota on Lap 75) What happened?
"I really don't know what happened. Someone told me 'inside' and 'outside.' Next thing I knew I had someone in my right or left rear, I'm not sure, and just ran over me, basically. I'm just trying to stay out of the way yet remain competitive and get the lap back. I don't think there was any need for that. I guess he's a poor loser or something, I don't know. That's not the way I race."
